Should I still self-isolate

Ive just got back from holiday. I've had a bit of a cold since mid-holiday. I didn't think anything of it as it's not bad at all, but yesterday, it dawned on me that it's been going on for a while. So I did a covid test, and I'm positive

Stupid of me not to test before but I barely even registered that I have a cold. I've not been sick at all, but when I've got up each morning, I've had a scratchy throat

My symptoms first started 10 days ago, and the GOV advice is now that you should self-isolate from 5 days after your positive test

Can I assume that that 5 day period is up for me? Or should I self isolate even though I'm fine and must have already had it for around 10 days

It’s always been from when symptoms begin or from positive test if asymptomatic.

Oh wow I honestly thought we didn't need to now.

Technically no we don’t have to as the legal requirement to self isolate has been removed.

There is still guidance though that you should isolate if you can.

I would if I didn't need to go out

ColettesEarrings · 31/05/2022 06:20

If you're certain the symptoms that began more than five days ago, then no, I wouldn't isolate further.

@SpringRainbow gosh it's just been going on way too long now I've zoned out abit, think I'll go back there 😂

It can be hard to keep up 😂

I only know because the school sends out loads of emails about it.

i would probably still stay away from other people, particularly if they are elderly or vulnerable until I tested negative. I did go out for dog walks when positive, but that was all.

CallItLoneliness · 31/05/2022 07:10

LFTs are a good barometer for infectiousness, so I would isolate now, but you're not obliged to.

Mariposista · 31/05/2022 18:33

I wouldn't have even tested! Avoid vulnerable people, but life goes on!
