Positive for two whole weeks and counting

When does this end?

My ex has been positive since 13 May and under house arrest.

If you'd had flu and felt better (of course no testing) you could go out.

Who's making him stay in?

Who's making him stay in?

Himself and people not wanting to mix with him.

He's messaged me to collect his car from the garage as he won't mix.

? Just go out? I'm a teacher, tested positive for over 2 weeks the second time- of course I was back in work by then so didnt make any difference. Tell him to get on with it and no one is under house arrest- very dramatic!

dementedpixie · 29/05/2022 20:37

He's able to go out after 10 days whether he's still testing positive or not

dementedpixie · 29/05/2022 20:38

In fact is it now 5 days for adults rather than 10?

I wouldn't have thought he'd be contagious after this long either.

I was 24 days until I got a negative test. At that point isolation was ten days, but tbh I felt so rank, and was able to work from home, I pretty much stayed in until it was negative. 13 weeks on and I still feel crap and can’t taste or smell!

NewYorkLassie · 29/05/2022 20:41

People are still testing?

NippyWoowoo · 29/05/2022 20:45

Stop counting.

I went back to work Day 10, with a faint positive still. Don't know how long it went on for because I just didn't test.

Last time I had it I was positive for almost four weeks. When we had it last year DH was still testing positive almost two months later!

The longest you've had to isolate for was 14 days way back at the beginning. Now you don't have to at all, but the guidance says five. Why on earth is he staying home when he's not infectious? Is he just trying to get out of responsibilities/having to go to work?

LisaSimpson77 · 30/05/2022 08:03

I'm a teacher and got told that if I had no symptoms I could carry on as normal after 5 days. I took 7 to feel fully better but then just stopped testing 🤷🏽‍♀️

He works at a blood transfusion centre so I don't know. He is a bit of a wuss, though.

He's your ex why are you doing things for him?

Because he asked me to do something doesn't mean I am going to. I'm more interested in the length of time people are isolating than him as a specific.

But he isn't "under house arrest", he's choosing to not go out and some people are choosing not to mix with him @ImJustMadAboutSaffron

Flu isn't COVID. The population have been exposed to influenza their entire lives - literally since before you were born. We're getting their with coronavirus, but it was a novel virus that only emerged 3 years ago.

Obviously if he's like this with everything and generally takes the piss that's annoying, but he's your ex and you're not required to help him out.

The evidence is mixed regarding if/how contagious you are when still testing positive 10+ days later. Obviously not feasible nor practical for everyone to isolate, but it's a personal decision. I was still testing positive and so avoided people I knew were CEV if they wanted me to, but otherwise went about my life as normal.
