Recurring sore throat after Covid

I had covid for the second time at the end of January. I ended up really vitamin D depleted (despite taking a daily supplement), so have just completed a six week intense course prescribed by my GP. This has really helped my energy levels. However, I have had a recurring sore throat since covid. When I had covid, the sore throat was the worst one I ever had. Today I've woken up with it yet again! LFT is negative, so it's not covid again, and I get the sore throat most weeks anyway. I've been to the GP and they did a throat swab, but it didn't show anything. The GP did admit my throat looked red, and one of my tonsils looked sore. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this, and what you've done about it?! It's driving mad!

Did this get better, I'm the same.

Covidwoes · 23/06/2022 09:18

Hi @Deadivy, it is slightly better, but still not 100%. My GP has referred me to ENT. 36 week wait though! It'll probably have gone by then haha!

Oh no! Thanks for the update. Get well soon!

I developed tonsillitis after recovering from Covid earlier this year. A course of antibiotics sorted it out, I'm surprised your GP wouldn't have tried that before referring to ENT.

Covidwoes · 23/06/2022 20:29

@FionnulaTheCooler it's because it keeps coming back repeatedly, but doesn't show any sign of infection (no pus).

Tonsillitis is rife at the moment. I had a sore throat from it for four weeks. Best friend has it now as have her kids.

I’ve currently got the same - I think it’s just a virus. I had covid about 5 weeks ago.

Hi @Covidwoes
I know this is an oldish thread - but I am experiencing similar with my throat after having Covid just after Christmas.

I'm just wondering how you are now - has it improved at all?

Sunshineguy · 14/02/2023 08:20

Covid can persist in the tonsils for months after acute infection

Hi @iloveblue! Thankfully it's better than it was, but any time I get so much as a hint of an illness, I get a sore throat! I have also been left with cobblestone throat, but my GP has had a look and it's nothing to worry about. I actually had covid again (third time!) a few weeks ago, and although I had a sore throat, it thankfully wasn't as bad as last time. I do think covid has made me sore throat prone though.

just to say this is really , really common in the CFS community, throats seem to be a vulnerable part of the body and and a common sign of getting rundown...its really important to take care of yourself if this is happening recurrently to you.

This is me too! Covid over Xmas and permanent sore throat. Doctor gave me penicillin which worked for a few days and then it came back again. (He did say that might happen) Im so fed up with it.

iloveblue · 21/02/2023 18:07

I'm sorry to hear that @Pigeonchested. Mine has started feeling better over the last few days - I'm a teacher and on half term so I think the rest is helping.
