5 year old with covid. Does this seem normal?

On Sunday my 5-year-old vomited, which is unlike him. Although I didn’t suspect covid because he didn’t have any other symptoms. He seemed to get better quickly and get back to normal. But yesterday he kept complaining that he still felt unwell and in the night had a fever of 39, and is still hot today although it’s coming down a bit with calpol. He’s very week and behaving very poorly.

I tested him and he has covid. But this seems quite bad for a 5 year old, doesn’t it? His friends all had almost no symptoms. The vomiting on Sunday must have been part of it.

Irritatingly, we had meant to get him the vaccine but we moved house 2 weeks ago and hadn’t had time yet!! I hadn’t been too worried about not getting the vaccine right away as he’s little and - like I said - his friends were all basically asymptomatic and only knew they had it because covid was in the household.

My kids were quite ill, and had hd the vaccine.

Mine were really really poorly on Day 2 then as if nothing had happened by Day 3

Poor thing, sounds about right, glad his temp is coming down, keep up the Calpol and lots of fluids.

6 year old grandson was pretty ill - lost appetite, sleepy, high temperature, lethargic.

Oh no! Urgh covid!!

How long were most sick for? I suppose this is probably day 3 for him, and I’d say his worst day 😞

Lots of tv and fluids on the menu!

My DD 6 was like that for about a week when she had it in January. When we tested due to a contact she was pre-symptomatic, started off with slight headache and tummy ache, then was exactly like you describe (apart from the vomiting) days 3-6 followed by a few days of slight temperature, headache and being very tired.

My 5 year old had a temperature of 40 for 24 hours, came down a little with paracetamol but then back up again when it wore off. Was pretty unwell for 24 hours but then bounced back really quickly. Was still testing positive after 10 days though.

This seems normal in kids OP. Hope he feels better soon. We tested positive early April. My kids (2-7) had a mix between them of high fevers, vomiting, headaches, lethargy, loss of appetite etc. Two are ok now, although one is still coughing a lot (coughing until being sick a couple of times a week now, v tired in class as sleep disrupted and on a steroid inhaler to help manage).
