Covid rules travelling to Spain

We are going away soon and my husband hasn't had the booster. I thought with Spain you only needed the 2 vaccines but my mum is adamant he needs a booster (which he is refusing to have). Please let me know if you've been to Spain what the requirements are/were as it isn't clear on the gov website. Thank you

It wasn’t advice hence the ?

I can’t remember now if I had it maybe I did, Will have to check

KnittingNeedles · 13/07/2022 09:06

We are all fully vaccinated and returned 2 days ago from the Balearic Islands. On check in at the UK airport we were not asked about vaccination. On arrival at Menorca there were two people in the arrivals hall after passport control asking random people to show proof or otherwise, and testing those who couldn't. They were testing very few people - 1% possibly if that.

No masks on plane, in airport. Only place in Spain where it's compulsory by law to wear masks is on public transport and it's patchy from what we saw on a bus journey, lots of locals eating and speaking on their phones without a mask.

Other autonomous regions of Spain may have different policies. In my experience, the Menorcans were SO pleased to have tourists back that any memories of Covid went right out the window. It was so lovely to be back to normal.

Mrsjayy · 13/07/2022 09:06

The booster was encouraged for everybody months ago op they will look at your vaccine status when you arrive so he needs to go get it, 3 weeks should be plenty of time.

dementedpixie · 13/07/2022 09:08

Just checked and I had my booster on 18th December 2021 which is just over 6 months ago although the booster currently has no expiry date.

All over 16s and some vulnerable under 16s will have been offered a booster already.

BrokenToy · 13/07/2022 09:09

We had a mad panic last week on the day we were meant to fly as my dolt of a husband hadn’t downloaded the NHS app for his proof of vaccination. He did it there and then but it advised up to 3 days to show 🤦🏻‍♀️

We booked a £50 rapid test at the airport.

His app showed up as we left there. The test came back negative about an hour later.

Would you like to guess how many times we were asked for proof of vaccination…?

Big fat zero. They just asked us at passport control and we said we were vaccinated. That was it.

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 13/07/2022 09:09

I got back from majorca a week ago and was asked for QR code , all 3 I had printed off and were scanned , there were about 6 -8 tables all with people checking
My friend went to Portugal and wasnt asked for anything but she had all 3 jabs

KnittingNeedles · 13/07/2022 09:10

No they won't. They MIGHT, depending on airport and regional policy. It's equally likely you'll breeze right through. This is peak travel time to Spain for visitors not just from the UK and they are striking the balance between keeping up with the law and managing the flow of people through the airports.

dementedpixie · 13/07/2022 09:12

We were just away to Lanzarote and they were selecting random passengers on arrival to check their covid passes. Ours got checked and were all OK as dh, dd and I have had 3 doses as we're all over 16 and ds had had 2 doses as he's only 15.

OnceAgainWithFeeling · 13/07/2022 09:13

Returned from Malaga at the weekend.

Flight out I think 3 of us were wearing masks despite repeated reminders from crew that it was required for flights to Spain (but a personal responsibility that they could not enforce).

Everyone on buses and trains and in pharmacies wore masks. Everyone.

They were checking Covid vaccination status at Malaga airport randomly. Only a handful
of people diverted there during offloading.

Plane back there were again a small handful of us wearing masks and the same messages from crew.

dementedpixie · 13/07/2022 09:19

The only places in Lanzarote we used masks was to go into a chemist and on a bus tour round the volcanoes. Noone had them on during the flights and barely saw any in the airport.

3 out of 4 of us ended up with covid but think ds was brewing it on the flight out as he tested positive the day after we arrived. He was sat between dd and I and we ended up with it too. Dh was across the aisle and stayed covid free (well didn't get any symptoms anyway)

USaYwHatNow · 13/07/2022 09:20

I flew to Lanzarote and no one checked our Covid passes either UK or Lanzarote side 🤷🏻‍♀️ we hadn't had boosters and we were jabbed with 2 jabs at the beginning of the pandemic due to our jobs so we were well over the 270 days 😕

dementedpixie · 13/07/2022 09:22

Strictly speaking you should have tested before the flights then. Had you done any tests? If not, you're lucky you didn't have your passes checked

KnittingNeedles · 13/07/2022 09:24

Weird that people are saying masks were required on flights. We flew with jet2 from Glasgow, there were no messages about masks at all, and no crew or passengers were wearing them.

In the airport, there were messages playing saying that masks were not legally mandated but were recommended. (And nobody was wearing them).

@MarshaBradyo everyone was offered a booster around Xmas 2021, I had mine Jan 2022, I think that's the booster everyone is talking about

Yes you’re right I think I just blanked that part out

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 13/07/2022 09:49

Re masks on flights.... Masks are still compulsory on public transport in Spain which includes flights. Our airline on the return flight told us it was a Spanish requirement whilst on the plane at the airport/in their air space but that the airline wouldn't police it. The staff wore masks early on on the return flight.

Precisely why I wore my mask both ways. Out of respect for others that I could have been incubating it. (I was a solo traveller so didn’t know anyone that was sat near me.)

KnittingNeedles · 13/07/2022 14:02

Can we just give over with the "out of respect for others" nonsense? It's SO 2020. We've had two years of hearing people piously declaring that THEY are wearing masks, isolating or whatever because they are decent human beings, simultaneously implying that people who don't wear masks or take whatever measures are lacking in respect and selfish.

So over it.

Having spent 2020 and 2021 trying to keep staff and patients safe in a hospital environment, I won’t apologise that what I learned influences me now.

When you’ve had to deal with the fallout of people dying prematurely of Covid without their loved ones, come back to me.

youlightupmyday · 13/07/2022 14:12

I have had 4 jabs ( was not in UK during the initial pandemic), but last one more than 270 days ago. Any ideas?

OnceAgainWithFeeling · 13/07/2022 14:15

You’ll be fine. 2+1 covers beyond 270 days.

Chaotica · 13/07/2022 14:20

But @KnittingNeedles, wearing a mask is out of respect for others. It doesn't benefit the wearer, just those around them. It's probably your guilt that makes you think it's pious.

If you want to live in a society where respecting others is a bad thing, you don't really want to live in a society at all.

Well we are all "over it: but I think if you are travelling to another country and they are asking for masks and vaccine status its just something we need to do.
