Period during covid?

NaiceHamAndHugs · 18/04/2022 15:51

I started my period pretty much at the same time I tested positive. Thankfully I’ve had very little in the way of covid symptoms, however I’m experiencing the worst period I’ve ever had! It’s like I’ve just given birth. I’m soaking through towels (heavy flow!) and joggers like nobody’s business, and I’m actually having to use bath towels to sit on. Never known anything like it! It’s also giving me really bad cramps. I do tend to have quite heavy periods, but nothing on this scale!

Has this happened to anyone else?

Hi OP, completely anecdotal but I had the opposite happen to me. Period a bit early and quite light, but went on for a couple of days longer than usual.
Didn't really consider it could be covid related TBH.
Is it possible you could have been pregnant and experienced a very early miscarriage?

NaiceHamAndHugs · 18/04/2022 19:01

No definitely not pregnant!!! I’m actually feeling really crap now with cramping. It’s like period on steroids. Really horrible. My skin is terrible too!

I guess it’s just one of the factors again that’s probably just so different with everyone.

Yes, this just happened to me! It wasn't as heavy as yours, but significantly heavier than usual with more cramps. It actually started a few days early as well. Skin has also broken out though that's probably because I've been stuck indoors and eating shit to cheer myself up.

LeftFootForward · 18/04/2022 21:13

That sounds awful, I really hope you get a break from it soon. It's bad enough having covid without a nightmare period as well !!

Scandishores222 · 19/04/2022 06:57

Yes, I've got covid, currently day 5. It's been like flu-really horrible and I've had the worst period pains and flooding I've ever had. I'm 42 and my period was starting to become quite light and short but I'm on my 4th day and I'm still flooding through my tampons and pads. Pain has eased off though thankfully.

I've had covid twice and oddly both times it coincided with me getting my period which was on schedule. There were no changes to mine in length or flow. I was wondering if there would be because I have PCOS, but it was the same as it always is. Not sure if it has anything to do with it, but I'm not vaccinated.

I started my period on day 3 of testing positive. It was heavier than normal and lasted longer too. The cramps and lower back pain felt like I was having a back to back labour, the pain was horrendous. I'm waiting for my post covid period and I'm a week late already hoping maybe covid has put a stop to periods (I'm 44 so in peri already).

sonjadog · 19/04/2022 09:57

I got it the day after I tested positive. It was due but it was notably heavier than normal as well. I also got my period within a day or two of each vaccination. Those times it was not due. I kind of expected it when I tested positive as I now suspect it is part of the effect covid has on my body!

Krustykrabpizza · 19/04/2022 10:10

I had the opposite, COVID delayed my period then it was light, but it definitely does affect periods!

NaiceHamAndHugs · 19/04/2022 10:33

This is really interesting to hear your experiences!

It’s still awful today, definitely far worse than the covid symptoms. I’m really fatigued too and I’ve no idea what to blame! Hopefully it’ll settle down.

I didn’t have any post vaccination issues. This has been a monster though…yes to the labour pains too!

I've just had COVID and my period started about 5 days early, while I was ill, but was otherwise normal.

Bluebellfae · 19/04/2022 21:09

Yes I'm 3 weeks post covid and mine started Sunday and has been horrendous this time much heavier than normal

L0stinCyberspace · 19/04/2022 23:25

My period started a week early during Covid and I had very painful cramps. Haven't had them for years.

NaiceHamAndHugs · 20/04/2022 13:32

It’s finally settled down today. I’ve also tested negative too so hopefully both things can just do one now and I can carry on as normal!

i really thought I was going to have to speak to a dr at one point!
