Getting worried now

Sillymummies123 · 12/04/2022 17:38

I'm on day 5/6. So far it's followed a pretty standard respiratory disease pathway (albeit leaving me exhausted), and yesterday I felt basically on the road to recovery.

Cue today: shivering, aches, stomach cramps, loss of smell, mood plummeting. Its like it is when you first get flu. Respiratory symptoms seem to be on the out... i just feel like I can't get warm and it's sudden and its quite a few days in, and it's exhaustion like nothing before.

I'm 30 and healthy (wee bit fat), and boosted in December

Anyone else's experience like this? Is it OK? Does it suddenly get worse before it gets better?

All 4 of us here had covid recently and between us seemed to have every possible symptom going. Every day we seemed to wake with something different. I was particularly shaky and weak 5 days after testing positive.

Jules912 · 12/04/2022 18:47

Day 0-3 I basically just had a bad cough and felt I'd got off reasonably lightly, day 4 I got all the other symptoms. Felt a bit better after a week but the back/chest pain and breathlessness walking up hill still haven't quite gone after 4 weeks.

ShowOfHands · 12/04/2022 18:49

Back when we first locked down, they continually warned that it often got worse on day 5/6 which was exactly what I and my dc experienced.

Piper22 · 12/04/2022 18:54

What are you worried about? Have you been vaccinated?

JS87 · 12/04/2022 19:01

I had minor cold symptoms first three days then fuzzy head and feeling rubbish started around day 4/5. Felt sick days 6/7. Felt better around day ten but still had a fuzzy head some days for a few weeks.

@Piper22

What are you worried about? Have you been vaccinated?
Becoming seriously ill. Vaccines are not a catch all and this infection is much worse than I could have anticipated as a vaccinated person. My worry stems also from the 'I was getting better and then it turned violent'

Thanks all - have spent the last 4 hours shivering in bed in 3 jumpers with the heating on but I now feel pleasantly warm and hopefully this is peak fever.

@Sillymummies123 I was the same. I’d had three vaccines but felt so unwell. You will be ok. Risk to you is extremely low given your age and vaccine status. If you’re feverish the worst thing you could do however is wrap up in layers. As awful as it is try to just wear loose light clothing and take paracetamol and ibrupofen. No amount of wrapping up with make you feel any warmer

hamdden12 · 12/04/2022 19:12

I'm on day 9 and like you around day 5-6 I started having new symptoms like loss of taste and extreme fatigue. I thought I was getting over it after having aches and chills the first two days so it came as a surprise to lose my sense of taste when I was starting to feel better. Now I feel fine apart from being tired but I suppose that could happen with any viral infection. I haven't been vaccinated and this is the first time I've had covid to my knowledge.

alexdgr8 · 12/04/2022 19:14

if you are worried, or symptoms of extreme fever continue, ring 111 for advice.
do you live alone ?

Thank you. Good to know that others progress like this. I must say - I do feel 'proper unwell today', like perhaps it's been all buildup so far and now my immune system is taking off?

Hopefully better soon!

I was shocked how bad I felt OP. Caught it two weeks ago and was fully vaccinated with a booster so didn't expect to feel so bad. Took me a long time to start feeling better.

I don't thankfully, but I think OH (who has been well through this) is starting to believe me dramatic. Im sure they'd jump on action if I passed out.

An oximeter saved my DH. On day 6 continuous fever and o2 levels dropped dangerously low. Would never have realised if it wasn’t for oximeter. Ambulance came and he recovered after a week in hospital ( young, fit, 40s)

God. Well this would ruddy terrify me but I have basically no respiratory symptoms anymore, thank goodness. I'm asthmatic too but no wheeze and peak flow is at 650. I'm sorry your husband was so unwell. Definitely worth sharing the darker perspective. Thank-you

Yes. I've got a Russell group degree in biology with plenty of specialism in immunology, and I assumed most boosted infections would be at worst a mild scratchy throat for a day or so...

I was expecting it to be more like flu than a cold but wasn't expecting it to drag on so long. Certainly the last time I felt so ill was when I had proper flu but that only lasted a week ( mind you I was 20 years younger!)

Sillymummies123 · 12/04/2022 20:10

Aaaaaaand my toddler has done diarrhea and vomited in his bed. He tested negative Sunday and Monday so perhaps a second infection. I am not excited for the coming days
