Isolating for 5 days or 10

So currently have covid second time
First time it was under test and release so day 5/6 negative could go out
Now advice says 5 days avoid etc but then goes in to say avoid also for 10 days so which is it?
It mentions vunerable people but how do I know who is vunerable
I have a wedding a week on tues , can I go?
I tested positive yesterday , but had symptoms late Thursday night and def Friday, but didn't test positive until yesterday
Its a shit show and confusing
At least before I could do a test day 5/6 and then go out
Now its 5 days after tesr but also avoid crowds and anyone vulnerable for 10 days
Yet kids only 3 days ?
Before you counted from symptoms as well not positive test

Where are you reading that advice? Can you post a link I'm interested.

Playdoughcaterpillar · 10/04/2022 09:55

I found it. It means 5d staying home/being v careful but continue to avoid contact with vulnerable people for 10d. Kids likely to be contagious for less time. 3d and free if they are well.

worriedatthistime · 10/04/2022 09:59

@Playdoughcaterpillar but how do i know who is vulnerable if i go into tesco for example ?
Also many people are going Back into work
Last tine i had it I could test on day 5/6 and if negative go out
They can't make up their minds
Dh also had it he goes into peoples home, he has no idea if they are vulnerable or not
But we are being told live with it but how can we afford 10 days of work everytime
I have now had it twice in just over 2 months

I currently have Covid, and will keep isolating until I test negative.

worriedatthistime · 10/04/2022 10:04

@MaryStuart thats what I am thinking I would rather do is take tests and 2 negatives then go out

I wouldn’t go to a wedding if still positive but that’s a good while off you should be ok.
I’d do two negative tests and then stop isolating.

But I work in the NHS that is still very much what we have to do and I get that others don’t get that choice in work and have to go to get paid. My sister works in hospitality for a big chain and they have been told to go to work positive or not unless really I’ll and physically can’t work. So people actively infectious are very much out and about.

MaryStuart · 10/04/2022 10:09

I’ve had it really quite bad too.
There’s no way I’d want to pass this on to anyone. So yeah, isolation until negative is the only way I think!
Hope you all get better soon. 🤞🏻

You can't know that but it means don't go and see granny in her nursing home etc. Just being sensible. You're right we can't keep taking 10d plus off for negative tests.

Treetops09 · 10/04/2022 10:43

I agree it’s very confusing . I’m counting my 10 days from when symptoms started. Isolated at home. Still a faint positive on Day 9. I’m walking the dog but not at work as customer facing. I don’t work set days so I can make up shifts later. It is possible to test positive for weeks so it’s frustrating that I may not be infectious but I’m being cautious.

worriedatthistime · 10/04/2022 10:45

@Mirrorball2022 so if you were to get it do you have to take the full 10 days or can test at day 5/6 and if negative go into work?

@Mirrorball2022 rd the wedding texhnically my day 10 is monday so tues wedding would be day 11
As im counting from symptoms not test ( although website now says test) i had symptoms late on Thursday and worse on Friday so I'm counting friday as my day 0
Dh just tested as day 5 , he is still showing positive
This is a real shit show , living with covid is unrealistic if we are expected to put life on hold for 10 days, i have had it twice in 2 months now
Colds / flu would normally be a fee days at home until well fhen out
Im also having treatment on a wound at drs and have to go 3 times a week , not sure how they will deal with that now
