Immunosuppressed DH

DH has 2 autoimmune conditions and is fully jabbed. On methotrexate for his conditions.
He had a terrible cold, horrendous sore throat and a persistent cough for a whole month. Test came back negative but it certainly seemed like covid.
He got better last week and went back to work but is now coughing again and has a cold again. Confused he is exhausted and can't take much more of this. Is it normal to catch covid again or for it to come and go?

Sadly it sounds like he's so rundown that he maybe just picked up another bug as soon as he's cleared the first one? I'm not immuno suppressed but I've had a lot going on recently and similar has happened to me – from going for years without needing antibiotics I had three courses within four months just because I couldn't properly shift bugs. Hope he's better soon

Is he testing with lateral flows? I've been told to test every day with symptoms as it can not show up straight away. A +ve lft means I can have antivirals.

PinkAndViolet · 08/04/2022 22:17

No as he would have been testing everyday for a month!
He hasn't been working much, only small amounts from home so not sure why he has picked up yet another bug as won't be work stress. He went back into the office a week ago and was fine up until now where he is coughing and has cold symptoms once again. So weird.

Has he told his consultant? It can be a serious side effect of Methotrexate. I am on various immunosuppressants and have access to a helpline who always phone back very quickly. Has he got something like that?

PinkAndViolet · 08/04/2022 22:52

He's been on it for a couple of years and never had anything like this so would be unusual at this point, his bloods are all clear also.
Yes, he has an appointment on Monday so will see what they say.

It's common to get more infections of any kind while on methotrexate.

PinkAndViolet · 09/04/2022 18:20

But he never has until recently that's what is odd.

I'm on mtx and had covid recently. For the fifth time, so it goes to show that being on it makes you more prone to catching covid! I'm quadruple jabbed but really wasn't well. And yes, it keeps coming back for another go.

I tested positive for three weeks and was unwell for a week before my first positive test, so it's been going on for five weeks now. I keep getting the burning chest, the vertigo, the cough and the blocked nose, and generally feeling crap. It definitely comes and goes - I'll be ok for a few days, then ill for a few.

My consultant told me not to take my mtx until I was completely well, so I haven't taken it for ages now (and I'm really feeling it so I've got that to contend with, too). Is your DH still taking his OP?

PinkAndViolet · 10/04/2022 19:34

He stayed off it until well but he took it again last weekend and then came down with this virus again.
He is exhausted. This time around it seems more a head cold and is not coughing but that could come. He's been on it a while and never been like this. Fatigued yes, but never catching bad viruses.
I wonder if he is just really run down right now and so will catch everything going. I do know he is getting emotionally drained by it all.
