I have just received a text from 'NHS Testkit' infoeming me I've been in close contact with someone with the Omicron variant and that I should order a PCR test.

The link takes me to what appears to be the NHS site and says PCR testing is mandatory and that it'll cost 99p for post and asks for card details.

I didn't think testing was mandatory and even if it were, I'm not prepared to share my card details. Has anyone rlse had this?

scam ahoy!

VyeBrator · 08/04/2022 17:35

No, but it's quite obviously a scam.

VyeBrator · 08/04/2022 17:36

Actually it's literally the first hit on Google if you type in 'NHS Testkit'

Wigeon · 08/04/2022 17:37

Definitely a scam

Batshittery · 08/04/2022 17:38

Pretty sure It's a scam. The government don't use any track and trace methods now and PCR's are not required. Avoid

Thanks. What threw me, is I saw my nephew Sunday who has tested positive for it.
I did a LFT a couple of days ago as I was seeing my mother.

Thanks. I've shared it with parents, who were also present, as I know they might be targeted too.

The LFT was negative.

Scam, it's been doing the rounds a few weeks

I thought the government were getting Google to tackle these scams instead of allowing them to manipulate to get on top of the search page. Greedy Google and useless government!

Top of the search page was NHS website, stating that this is a scam.

Just had this message too! Definitely a scam. I’ve never had track and trace and never have blue tooth switched on. Plus the government don’t actually care anymore. Definitely ignore.

Mindymomo · 09/04/2022 07:17

Yes, it’s a scam and actually gives number whereas anything from gov wouldn’t have number shown. Both DH and I got texts at exactly the same time in middle of the night. We thought it strange as we hadn’t been out together for the previous week. But it gets you thinking and I’m sure lots of people have fallen for this scam, as you say the link looks gov official.

Nothing to do with Google. The OP received a text with a link which she clicked.

Yes, this is a text from 'NHS Test kit'. It looks like ones I had from the NHS. You can't reply to it or block the number, report the number or even see a number.

Here's how it looks, just for reference:
