As the title says... currently have Covid and I am so gutted I can't taste anything! I'm a massive foodie too and life is just SO boring!

I've made the mistake of googling this and it comes up at months, sometimes years for some people! Hence this thread, just want to know what normal people experienced...

About 3 weeks for taste and 4-5 months for smell, came back just in time to catch covid again, but thankfully didn't lose either taste or smell that time!

Bobbybobbins · 06/04/2022 20:42

I've lost mine too, similarly gutted. Tea in particular tastes not nice.

20viona · 06/04/2022 20:44

About 2 weeks things tasted weird like ketchup tasted like acid but it wore off quickly.

LightandFruity · 07/04/2022 07:51

4 to 5 months for me

Onegingerhead · 07/04/2022 08:05

5-6 days when I had delta last summer. With omicron recently my smell and taste were not affected

AntarcticTern · 07/04/2022 08:07

This didn't happen to me, but for DH it was only a couple of days before I came back.

ShowOfHands · 07/04/2022 08:14

Only 2-3 days both times. Absolute 100% loss as well. I ate the hottest chilli we have to show DH. It was like cardboard. Didn't come back properly immediately but took a couple of weeks. 14yr old DD however, still has reduced smell/taste 2yrs later.

RedRec · 07/04/2022 08:34

About 7 months. Then some things came back tasting 'wrong'. Took another 3-4 months for it all to get back to normal (and I still can't bear to eat an apple as they tasted so foul when it was all wrong and messed up).

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 07/04/2022 09:00

I have covid in August and sense of smell has just started recovering.

Taste didn’t go but things tasted very weird for a while. I remember apple juice burning my tongue.

mynameiscalypso · 07/04/2022 09:02

I had the same panic and remember googling like mad when this happened to me. I properly lost taste/smell for about a week but it started gradually coming back after that. I am still not sure that my sense of smell has 100% recovered (had Covid at the start of Feb) but I also have terrible hayfever at the moment which probably doesn't help!

TotallyTS · 07/04/2022 11:16

It was about a week for me but some stuff still tastes a bit weird.

Whyevencare · 07/04/2022 11:36

Had covid early February this year, lost taste/smell for approx a week.

DPotter · 07/04/2022 11:42

Had Covid just as we went into the first lockdown, so 2 years plus. Lost both taste and smell.

Neither are fully back to normal, I'd say about 90% back for taste, 75% for smell

KylieCharlene · 07/04/2022 12:06

Not much help but I currently have covid (day 8ish) and I haven't lost taste or smell.
My DP and two dc all have recently recovered and none lost taste/smell either.

SunStruck · 07/04/2022 12:09

Thanks so much ladies! You're giving me hope 😅 On day 4 now, fingers crossed it won't be more than a week 😩

About 3 days first time and not at all second time.

LadyEloise1 · 07/04/2022 15:36

With loss of smell does that mean that if you spray your favourite perfume you get no hint whatsoever of it ?

ComDummings · 07/04/2022 15:42

Yeah. I couldn’t smell anything. Even vinegar. It was weird. Also couldn’t taste the vinegar either. It lasted about a week then took a week to gradually return.
beattieedny · 07/04/2022 15:43

Me, a few days, dh months and months. Since November. The children not at all.

Yes. It was bizarre. I also couldn't smell my DS very pungent nappies.
SunStruck · 07/04/2022 15:55

@LadyEloise1 yes I can't smell a thing. It's so weird! Never appreciated my senses as much as now as I've never had this before. Cooked a chili today and had to ask DP to taste to check it's alright as I couldn't! Also had ti ask him to smell the yoghurt to see if it smelled gone off before giving DC.

Not tasting anything though is just so boring, I absolutely love eating so I'm scared I will fall under the category of those it took months for to return 😩

Lost sense of smell and taste for about a week. Very odd. Fine now though.

SanFranBear · 07/04/2022 16:02

I didn't really lose either taste or smell but I still, 7 months later, smell cigarette smoke and have a weird after-taste. Desperately hoping they sort themselves out soon as whilst not debilitating, they're just always there!

Wakemeuuuup · 07/04/2022 16:38

I'm in the same boat, lost taste and smell yesterday. I'm gutted, can't imagine living like this for months.

I really thought this wasn't a symptom of omicron when fully vaxxed but trust me to make it happen

Thanks for your replies.
🤞I don't get the virus.
