Hearing loss

Morning I'm on day 8 of having covid still getting a strong positive but feeling much better that I did last week. I have lost hearing in my left ear which is driving me nuts I've just been to the drs which was an odd experience of being examined in the car park with full PPE. Dr said there's a very small amount of wax no sign of any infection so he's referred me for a hearing test. Has anyone else experienced hearing loss due to covid ? Did it return ? Tia.

Yes, it’s happening to a few people. My DD lost her hearing in 1 ear for a while, then it came back before her appointment at the hospital came through, though they checked it just to be sure.

It seems to be caused by congestion and we were told to use Olbas to help clear it.

Thanks I'll give that a try and glad your DD is ok.

It’s probably just an ear infection but covid has been associated with sudden sensorineural hearing loss which needs to be treated with steroids within a few days. www.racgp.org.au/afp/2013/september/sudden-onset-hearing-loss
Probably just a good idea to get your hearing checked asap just in case.

I lost mine last jul for 3w. After what i now thimk was covid as it started with the same strange blocked nose.
This time i used a nasal salt spray. Also try broncostop pastelles as they taste yuck but i could literally feel them unblocking my eustacean (sp) tubes

A relative of mine did and it’s never returned, he’s having hearing aids fitted.

Dr had a good look this morning and no sign of infection. Definitely no water trapped in there either, no swishing or popping sensation on the left side. It's pretty depressing not being able to hear properly I was hoping it was an infection that could be treated.

I'll give them a try thanks, I've got the Sudafed nasal spray.

I'm so sorry to hear that I hope once he's had his aids fitted that things improve for him.

I lost mine at the end of my covid infection- was gone for about 3 weeks. Gradually got better and went back to normal.

Did your hearing come back. I lost mine in my left ear two days ago due to covid. I am absolutely devastated.

I am currently struggling with sudden sensorial hearing loss in my left ear. I tested positive for Covid twice in eight weeks, only mild symptoms at the time (triple vaxxed). Two months after my last infection, the hearing in my left ear suddenly went one lunchtime when talking with a friend. I’m v lucky to have private health insurance and live overseas. So got to see ENT doc immediately who thinks it is caused by a virus affecting the inner ear, possibly Covid. I’ve nearly finished high dose oral steroid treatment with no improvement. Next up, steroid shots into middle ear😫 and a non urgent MRI. It’s a difficult experience. Feels ‘neurological’ - my hearing is muffled, distorted, sharp, tiny with back ground high digital hiss of tinnitus.
