Nosebleed false positive?

Can a nosebleed give a false positive on lateral flow?

I did lat flow last night and forgot I get constant mild nose bleeds on one side, there was a bit of red on swab and the test shows positive. I redid test last night and this morning and both show negative

Do I disregard the first test?

The instructions say it can but sorry to say it never made a difference to me, had plenty of negatives with a little blood in then my first positive did so I repeated it and it was fainter but definitely still a line. Admittedly the repeated one was so faint that if I hadn't had symptoms and multiple household contacts i'd've questioned it.

I have had a swab full of blood and still got a negative. So you probably are positive.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 04/04/2022 09:20

False negatives are more likely.

Yeah DH had a positive on a pcr but never tested positive on lateral flow.

Anecdotal obviously but my sister had a negative LFT (travel one) with blood on the swap. The person doing it for her said it was fine and happens a lot.

It doesn't give a false positive, more it can cause a pink tinge on the test which can be mistaken for a line. If you can see a clear, straight line, it will be a positive.

Oh no very clear line, not a pink tinge.

I’ve done thousands over the last two yrs (for work) often bleed with blood ending up on the swab, but has never given me a positive.

That’s a clear positive, sorry

Thanks. Hide at home for a week then.
