How have I escaped it?

FlummoxedFlowerpot · 02/04/2022 15:12

DH, DD, DS all positive in the past ten days, 90% of my work colleagues, working as HCP and presuming I've had regular contact.
I just cannot understand how I've escaped. My 3rd booster was in September so I can presume my antibodies have waned.
I'd say I'm reasonably careful, PPE at work, masks on the tube but have been shopping, to pubs etc.
I almost wanted to get it done and dusted. Anyone else in the same boat?

You could be immune. Some people are.
Or very lucky.

inmyslippers · 02/04/2022 15:17

Spanish flu there was no immunisation everyone just died leaving those with natural immunity.

WaterBottle123 · 02/04/2022 15:17

I was you until last week OP. So much exposure, kids and DP all bringing germs from 3 different school..

Then my luck finally ran out. It's very very random

Gooseysgirl · 02/04/2022 15:21

I'm the same. DH and DC all had a few weeks ago... I'm baffled as to how I have escaped!!!

Lilaclavenders · 02/04/2022 15:55

I'm the same!

Last month my dh and both dc had Covid. As I am vaccinated I was happy to catch it and so did not isolate. I even shared a bed with dh etc. And I never once managed to test positive, either with ltf or PCR.

I must have a good immune system Smile or be lucky.

FlummoxedFlowerpot · 02/04/2022 17:44

It seems such a lottery. Hopefully the numbers have peaked, it would be so inconvenient to get it over Easter.

OP posts:
BlackInk · 02/04/2022 17:44

There's no such thing as done and dusted OP because you can catch it over and over, and even within weeks. I would just be glad you've avoided it for now!

...Although. DP tested positive a full 12 days after DD and then me 5 days after that. I was close to DD throughout her isolation, but it got me in the end.

AutumnOrange · 02/04/2022 17:49

I am the same op. 5 out of 6 in my family home got it - I didn’t. Everyone in my office got it - I didn’t. I am fairly careful but haven’t been ott. I have been part of the ONS study for 2 years and never tested positive. Have had all 3 jabs and my last ONS blood test showed I have strong antibodies. I am fat and a smoker. My daughter got it twice in 6 months. I don’t understand.

LuluBlakey1 · 02/04/2022 17:55

Me, DH, 3DC (2-7) and none of us have had it- DH is a teacher too. PIL have not had it either or DH's grandma who lives with them.

Our neighbours spent a weekend with their two DC sharing a hotel room. She got it but the other 3 didn't.

My best friend and her husband got it but their two DC and her elderly parents who were staying with them didn't.

My 90 year old aunt has had it twice with no symptoms- sailed through it.

It is an odd disease.

newyeardelurker · 02/04/2022 17:58

I was starting to think maybe I'm immune.... just tested positive plenty of symptoms Sad mucked up Easter holiday plans

raspberryjamchicken · 02/04/2022 17:58

I haven't had it either. Primary teacher, 90% of my colleagues, including those who work in the same classroom as me and at least 50% of my class have had it. I don't seem to have caught it. I suspect I might have had it without knowing at some point and built up some immunity alongside my vaccines, but I know quite a few people who've had it more than once too.

Every time I write this down, I assume I am tempting fate and will go down with Covid the next day.

MyHusbandTheIdiot · 02/04/2022 18:00

Ha… I was you last week OP. Now I’ve got it. It’s hellish despite being triple vaccinated and having been exposed multiple times previously and never having got it. I’m flat out in bed on day 3 with no sign of it shifting yet. Grim. Just be thankful you haven’t caught it… yet!

Ohchristmastreeohchristmastree · 02/04/2022 18:01

I’m triple jabbed and I’ve been part of the ONS study too and they said last week that have the higher level of antibodies. I was convinced I was immune. Two days later I got covid!

I’m now very grotty - like a bad cold.

blibblibs · 02/04/2022 18:06

I work in a medical setting, see dozens of patients a day. Two DC at school and thought I was probably immune too.
But no, on day 4 now and feel terrible. Hoping the peppermint tea settles my stomach too.

AutumnOrange · 02/04/2022 18:09

Sorry to that OhChristmasTree

I am like a pp - think I am tempting fate every time I say I haven’t had it. The only people I know who haven’t had it are me and my 78yr old dad.
I hope you feel better soon Flowers

Duracellbunnywannabe · 02/04/2022 18:09

@inmyslippers

Spanish flu there was no immunisation everyone just died leaving those with natural immunity.
Not entirely true. Elderly people weren’t really affected by it all, suggesting they did have some immunity from a similar virus.

OP you may have just jinx yourself! I know people who were fine despite covid going through their house twice but then went on to catch it later.

AutumnOrange · 02/04/2022 18:11

My work have stopped paying from day 1 of COVID and reverted back to 3 days unpaid sick leave - so Sod’s law I will get it now! 🙄
At least getting paid by ONS!

umpkj · 02/04/2022 18:16

I haven't had covid. Enough exposure. I used to smoke and then I got every cold going around. Now I am vaping and don't seem to get any colds anymore. I am sure if was still smoking I would have had covid couple of times. Smoking and general laziness made my teeth and gums bad which I think made me very easy to get colds.

BHX3000 · 02/04/2022 18:19

This was me. I’ve been a close contact of basically everybody I know since this whole thing started. No distance or masks at work due to the nature of our job, and I’ve been careful but haven’t avoided gatherings since they became legal again, have been to pubs and on planes etc.

Then I tested positive this morning after a week of seeing almost nobody Grin It’s extremely random. Although I must also say, I’ve just finished an exhausting 3 months of work with not a single day or weekend off, plus jet lag and sleep deprivation over the last few days, so I’m assuming my immune system has finally said ‘enough is enough’ and demanded a break…

user1471443411 · 02/04/2022 18:24

It could be that you've had covid already but without symptoms, or you are immune due to a previous coronavirus infection (ie not covid). May be worth doing an antibody test, but does it really matter unless you are especially vulnerable, for an infection which has mutated to be very mild for most.

FictionalCharacter · 02/04/2022 18:27

It’s just luck. Early studies on Covid in March 2020 looked at households where at least one person had it. Some people in the households didn’t catch it despite close contact. No positive PCR, no antibodies, nothing. Hard to understand but it happens.
My DS had it recently and none of the rest of us got it.

FlummoxedFlowerpot · 02/04/2022 18:30

Thanks for the comments, no doubt I've jinxed myself.

OP posts:
StillRock81 · 02/04/2022 18:33

I was the same- exposed hundreds of times over the last couple of years, not once had a symptom.

This weekend, all the symptoms and a positive test. Utterly utterly random and no idea where from !

Clareyck · 02/04/2022 18:34

Yup me been in close contact loads of time.
.front line social care job, primary aged dc, office outbreak where the 12 out of 15 people tested positive and a night out where 3 out of 5 did, I test 3 times a week for work and as far as I know I haven't had it although there are a few times I have had symptoms but had a negative pcr.

LoganberryJam · 02/04/2022 18:35

I was the same! Never caught it from DH or my DC when they had it at various times (not to mention friends, colleagues etc). Then finally got it 10 days ago! Luckily pretty mild.
