How have I escaped it?

FlummoxedFlowerpot · 02/04/2022 15:12

DH, DD, DS all positive in the past ten days, 90% of my work colleagues, working as HCP and presuming I've had regular contact.
I just cannot understand how I've escaped. My 3rd booster was in September so I can presume my antibodies have waned.
I'd say I'm reasonably careful, PPE at work, masks on the tube but have been shopping, to pubs etc.
I almost wanted to get it done and dusted. Anyone else in the same boat?

My immediate family have all had it twice now but I've never tested positive. It's slightly weird but I'm not complaining!

SleepymummyZzz · 02/04/2022 18:50

I thought the same until this week 😬

Remmy123 · 02/04/2022 20:13

Same. Ive not had my had my booster.

My husband had it (we shared a bed etc)
Toddler had it - carried on kissing me in the lips and coughing in my face
My other child has it, also coughed in my face etc

Myself and other son have not got it. I don't generally pick up bugs etc

I wasn't positive until 2 weeks after DH ......we both wfh and did not isolate from each other and it still took that long
JaceLancs · 02/04/2022 20:43

I was saying that very recently then tested positive a few days ago!

CJat10 · 02/04/2022 20:52

I could have written this. Tonight I feel rubbish. Tired. Slightly upset tum, nausea, aches, mildly sore chesty cough, sore throat and racing heart sensation although it's only 10 bpm above normal. Negative LFT though

I won't be surprised if positive tomorrow

Stressypantsagain · 02/04/2022 21:08

I could have written your post op HCP too. Was quite smug about not catching it.
I'm now day 4 positive and feel awful. Started with a sore throat, had a couple of negative lft's then did a pcr at work that was positive.
I hope it continues to allude you!

PermanentlyTired03 · 02/04/2022 21:09

Same, me and DH both had 3rd jab and never had COVID. Most people we know have. I think we've just been lucky!

LowlyTheWorm · 02/04/2022 21:13

maybe you started it @FlummoxedFlowerpot on your family but were asymptomatic?
i’m unvaccinated and a HCP working in a ward closed due to covid. Three family members including DP have had covid in the last month. Not me… weird.

Boxachocs · 02/04/2022 21:14

@Ohchristmastreeohchristmastree and @AutumnOrange I haven’t had it yet and my ONS test also came back showing a higher level of antibodies, I assumed that meant I really am immune and won’t catch it from my son who has had it this week! I guess not if your stories are anything to go by!

Jules912 · 02/04/2022 21:19

I thought I was immune after I didn't catch it off DD sneezing in my face, 2 months later I got it off DS.

AutumnOrange · 02/04/2022 21:40

I still haven’t had it despite dd getting it twice - 7yr old ds having it and clinging to me the whole time plus my other 2 children had it and we didn’t maintain any social distancing at home - plus my boss (who I work very closely with) getting it twice and I still didn’t get it. Obviously can’t speak too soon and it may happen yet but I think those of us who didn’t catch it should be paid to get tested to find out why, despite being in close contact, we just never contracted it 😀
Bizarrely my oldest son went to his university town to empty his student house and within 24 hours started to feel ill, had symptoms and him and his girlfriend were in hospital (thankfully only for a couple of days and both are fine now) yet nothing at home (we were testing a lot - I have to stop test daily for work) I think there must be so much they don’t know about this virus and people’s immune systems are all very different. 3/6 of my household have had a horrendous sickness bug this week - the other 3 of us haven’t had it even slightly!

AutumnOrange · 02/04/2022 21:41

*do daily tests not stop daily tests!

Boxachocs · 02/04/2022 22:08

It is indeed a strange one. I test regularly for work too. Both my children have had it separate times and I haven’t caught it, despite no distancing from them.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 03/04/2022 08:47

This was me. NHS worker with lots of confirmed exposure, COVID in the house twice, negative routine lfts throughout. Posted on a Mumsnet thread about people who had never had it, and was positive before the week was out 😁

Mindymomo · 03/04/2022 09:05

I do wonder if some people have had covid, but had it so mild that it isn’t picked up on testing. All 4 of us have had covid recently, one after the other, myself being the last to test positive after 4 days of symptoms. I do also think the body can only hold off for so long, my adult DS has been out and about doing a lot socialising but never caught it, but his friends did, then he spent a whole evening with DH who tested positive next day, DS then tested positive. I think he was beginning to think hecwas immune.

ChillyAvocado · 03/04/2022 09:17

Neither DP or I have had it - both live in London and have been on countless crowded tubes etc.

DP goes out a lot to bars/pubs. I go out for dinner/shopping.

I have been boosted but DP hasn’t!

mydogisthebest · 03/04/2022 09:49

I haven't had it nor has DH.

Last year we nursed my mum for over a week and didn't wear a mask all the time and hugged her quite a lot. My 2 siblings who only visited once for just over an hour and wore masks and gloves the whole time both caught it.

We are the only ones in our family that haven't had it. Our nephew had to go into London for work just once last month and caught it. One of our nieces also caught it going into work just the once.

We spent a week at New Year in London going on buses and/or tube every day. Also went to the theatre a couple of times, restaurants and cinema.

Last month we went to another city in the UK. Again using buses, trams, going to restaurants. We also went to a sports event where the stadium was packed.

Aspergirl77 · 03/04/2022 09:51

I haven’t had Covid either, nor has DS1. DH had it last Feb and was quite unwell (still suffering with long Covid), DS2 had it before Xmas. Everyone except DS2 is fully jabbed, worn masks, tested regularly, social distanced, hand washed/sanitised etc. I worked with my small team in my office throughout all the lockdowns (registering deaths), 2 colleagues have also recently had Covid. I’m either just lucky or have a super duper immune system, either way I don’t mind!

ArtVandalay · 03/04/2022 10:00

3 out of 4 of us in this house have never had it, despite being in very close contact with people that did, including ds2. When he tested positive, we didn’t distance from him in the house.

We’ve also not worn masks apart from the times they were mandated. ds1 has been socialising a lot and on the train/tube every week. Dh and I have been in crowded bars, restaurants most weeks.

I think we’ll probably succumb eventually.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 03/04/2022 10:01

you might be symptom free op and testing at the wrong time therefore missing it?

Wren44 · 03/04/2022 10:09

You may have already had it. Without realising. Before the first official lock down, bet there were loads of people who got but just assumed it was a cold or flu.

AutumnOrange · 03/04/2022 14:16

I lost my voice for 4 weeks in Dec 2019 but no other symptoms - no temp, nothing. Since then I have not been poorly since and have been testing, at a minimum, monthly since May 2020. I think some people just got lucky and didn’t get it.
TheFormidableMrsC · 03/04/2022 14:19

I haven't had it despite being ECV and exposed multiple times. I sat in my car for a considerable time with a friend who tested positive a couple of days later and still didn't get it. Having said that, I've never had flu either. I'm 52. I feel I've just been lucky so far. I have kept up masking and hand washing and use sanitizer regularly so that's probably helped. How long this will continue for is the million dollar question!

MoiraNotRuby · 03/04/2022 14:21

@newyeardelurker

I was starting to think maybe I'm immune.... just tested positive plenty of symptoms Sad mucked up Easter holiday plans
Snap! Feel sadly gutted that I am not in fact invincible.
