Self isolation rules

Sorry to sound ignorant, my dc has tested positive and I haven't kept up with the rules for self isolation. They are not poorly but they are unvaccinated - not sure if that makes a difference- do they need to self isolate? Dc are 9 and 6. The government website says they'd don't have to by law but should self isolate. I'm confused!

Advised to isolate for 10 days, can leave on day 6, if they receive 2 negative tests on day 5 and 6.

My school says children to isolate until 2 negative tests on at least day 5 and 6.

Thanks I will check with their school tomorrow, there seem to be a lot of dcs friends with Covid at the moment.

The government website says there's no longer an obligation to self isolate at home. I get as a general courtesy you could keep your child home, but are there different legal government rules for children?

Most schools are still asking for positive child to isolate until they get 2 negative results on days 5 and 6. Other children who are not positive can go in.
