How long do I have to isolate for now?!

I know we don’t HAVE to isolate any more, but if you test positive and are going to isolate, is it until you test negative / feel better or ten days has passed?

Presumably once testing ends it’ll just be until you feel better, if symptomatic.

It’s rampaging around my kids school for the third time, I’m just wondering how long we need to keep them off this time if they test positive.

You can take lft on day 5 and 6 24 hours apart and if they are both negative you can stop. If positive you keep testing until you get w negative (24 hours apart) or 10 days. Day 1 is the day after symptoms or positive test.

Thanks @Paddingtonsmarmlade so when free testing stops in April it would just be isolate until feeling better as per any other illness?

Prof Tim Spector from the Zoe app/ study (aka my Covid guru) says you should be ok after 6 days. Even if you’re still testing positive then you’re likely no longer infectious

You can't get lfts any more, tried today and they said only vulnerable people so it's a case of feel ill stay at home, don't feel ill party on. Don't shoot the messenger, this is government policy. Many will say about time, others are still cautious

You can click past that and still get them I think.

I’m also curious about how this business of testing negative on day 5/6 is going to work when we can’t get tests. We all have covid at the moment in our house but nowhere near enough tests to test us all from day 5 onwards so what do we do? I suppose it’s wait til symptoms are gone or ten days have passed, whichever happens first.

Who knows come April, I guess we will do what we fancy as we won't know whether we have it or something else. I'll be interested to see as our school have asked for lft 2 days running for all pupils as they have a massive outbreak. Believe this has been advised by someone higher up the in county education.

Just do as you would for any other illness come April.

Currently positive and I'm planning to stop isolating on day 6. I'm only on day 2 and already feel fine, just a runny nose now. By next week we have to use our own judgment unless you have a test supply so usual common sense should be applied. Also, I managed to order some tests online yesterday and they arrived today.

Well you don't have to do this. This was the previous rules. Currently it is only advise to isolate and from April it is only if you feel unwell.
