covid tests negative but symptoms

Whole family has had it. Youngest is 12 and has cold symptoms but all tests are negative. Thinking of getting home pcr for him as he is due his 2nd vaccine dose in a couple of weeks.
If tests are negative would you still go for the vaccine? I worry about the12 wk gap the advice says there should be for children between covid and vaccine.

Do your whole family have it now? If so it’s likely your youngest has it but is just not testing positive yet. Give it a couple of days and he probably will. If your whole family don’t have it now it’s possible he just has a cold.

rest of family have either had it or still have it. So yes surrounded even though those with it staying in their rooms. That and separate bathrooms has made no difference.

Given the prevalence of BA.2 at the moment the likelihood that cold symptoms = Covid is much higher. I'd get a PCR to be sure.

I tested negative for 3 days with symptoms before testing positive on an LFT. The PCR on the 3rd day of symptoms was positive.

Covidcovideverywhere · 19/03/2022 19:12

that is my thinking, quite sure he cannot have avoided it.

I used to have faith in PCRs being the gold standard but I had a negative LFT and negative PCR on my first day of symptoms. Next day I got a faint positive on the LFT.

Dc3 has been off all week with a cough and cold. Negative on LFT every other day. He’s supposed to have a minor op on Monday so had a pre-op PCR yesterday and is positive. He’s still negative on at home LFT today.

Covidcovideverywhere · 19/03/2022 19:16

will order home pcr and just move his vaccine appt for now. Guessing he is going to be positive.

Last week DH had a horrible cold type virus and was laid up for 2 days in bed, but negative on LFT and PCR test. I’ve got it now and it is pretty nasty but also negative LFT. There are other hints out there and I think due to lockdown etc people are getting other things quite badly xx

Nomad916 · 19/03/2022 19:26

My LFTs were always negative. PCR positive. If he's positive now, it sort of acts like a vaccination , so no issues with delaying 2nd jab.

Quornflakegirl · 19/03/2022 19:30

Both my dc have it and have slept in my bed and I’ve kissed and cuddled them as normal as they’re both a bit miserable with it.
LFT still negative for me and DH on day 3,
We both feel fine so hoping we won’t catch it but unlikely.

jupitermars1345 · 19/03/2022 19:49

My six year old has it ATM
Positive PCR today
Lft still negative
She has vomiting and a dry cough
My baby has a snotty nose and a wet cough
Negative lft
Have done a PCR and expecting positive

I think the lft are bloody useless IME

If you all have/just had covid and your child has the same symptoms then they have it too! It doesn't matter what a test tells you. Read the symptoms and if they are the same as everyone else then there is your answer.
I'd delay the jab.

BusyBeaMe · 19/03/2022 20:22

It’s going through our house, started with DD 2 on Monday, me on Thursday and I think DS 4 is going down with it too but he’s currently negative on LFT. I doubt very much he’ll escape it…

BigButtons · 19/03/2022 21:45

It took me a good 5 days of symptoms before I got a positive.
