School wants PCR test

My son tested positive for covid just over 2 weeks ago. Didn't show any symptoms just a positive test.
They now have diarrhea and a temperature, and school are insisting we do a PCR test before they allow him back to school?

Is this correct? I thought you wasnt to test again for 90 days as covid could still be in your system?

You are correct. You won't be able to book a PCR test within 90 days of a previous positive PCR.

hunder · 17/03/2022 13:55

You do not test again for 90 days unless you develop symptoms.a temperature is a symptom, so you should get a test.

Nope what a load of bollocks.
As soon as he's well send him in.

I would do the usual 48 hours for a sickness bug.

2 months could well be a new case. 2 weeks is more likely to pick up the traces of the previous illness than a new one.
LFT would have the advantage here as it's more likely to reveal a new increase of Covid than a 2 week old case. So I'd go for 48 hours quarentine then a LFT.

You can gets again within 90 days if you have symptoms, fever is a symptom that technically needs a test but that's your choice.

Others said you cannot book a test within 90 days, you can if you select that you have symptoms. It lets you book. Dd had covid twice within a month, I had no issues booking the second pcr a month later after he first positive test.

Lft might be a better option for your son though. It picks up when viral load is higher...

If it was me I'd just keep him off as can't go in with diarrhoea anyway, 48 hour rule applies and do lft's.

Not true. School asked me to arrange a PCR this week as DD had a temp. On the online form, it asked if she'd tested positive within the last 90 days so I ticked yes (she had!) but it still let me book.

Yep this is correct. The majority of people with covid now have the new variant so it’s entirely possible he has covid again.

It's only asymptomatic testing that you don't do within the 90 days. New symptoms and you test even within this period.
