Is it possible not to get covid when the rest of the family has it?

Sorry probably been asked before but just wondering if anyone has been spared covid when the rest of the household have it?

DD1 got it from school but recovered quickly, we pretty much isolated her as soon as she had it. DD2 then got it but it was impossible to isolate her as she's only little and she was actually really poorly so both DH and I were very much exposed when looking after her. I tested positive a few days later after having had symptoms for quite a few days. DH who is vulnerable still hasn't tested positive and has no symptoms and it's been almost two weeks now since our eldest first had symptoms.

Always thought DH would be the first one to get it as his immune system is compromised and he usually gets every bug going, and for his sake we have been really careful for the last two years.

Yes. I know several people who haven’t caught it despite the rest of the household having it. And they didn’t separate themselves either.

When DD had it in January we couldn't distance from her as she's only 6, none of us got it.
Last week DS brought it home and now everyone apart from DD has it. Though if it's been two weeks I'd say your DH would've got it by now if he was going to.

Me.
DS didn’t isolate, although he isn’t a young child, and I didn’t get it. Tested every day for 10 days and was fine. I’m triple jabbed and it was a month after I’d had my booster, if that makes a difference.

No harm in him being extra careful for the next few days, but he’s probably already been exposed.

That's interesting. I remember seeing some articles in the past about people who seem to be immune to covid. Just never thought DH could be one of them as he has lots of health issues and takes like 10 different tablets a day, or maybe it's his regular drug cocktail that's helping, who knows!

Back in October DS12 had Covid and none of the rest of us (me, DP and DD9) caught it. We didn't isolate him but took some precautions – open windows, hand washing, masks for close contact some of the time. He spent most of his time in his room though out of choice, but shared bathroom and I was popping in to check on him frequently.

DD has Covid now. Tested positive last Thursday so officially day 6, and so far none of us have caught it. She hasn't isolated at all – spent a couple of days in bed because she was feeling rubbish, but otherwise at large in the house. I'm amazed that none of us have caught it yet, but I guess there's still time!

I tested positive a whole week and a half after my daughter first tested positive. Thought I’d escaped it but alas! I did have symptoms in the week up to the positive result through so maybe just not viral load to show up on the LFT.

DDs BF can’t seem to catch it.
His whole household got it and he tested negative repeatedly. Then at Christmas he spent a whole day snuggling up to DD (and God knows what else) and we all tested Positive next day and still he didn’t get it.

DH didn't get it and neither me nor DS isolated in the house. There was a week between us both testing positive so DH was around a positive case for several weeks.

Everyone in my household had it in Feb. I have cancer. I didn't get it. I had to continue caring for my SEN child. I must have been covered in the virus.

I'd love to know my anti-bodies keep meaning to ask if I can be tested.

Sorry to hear you have cancer @TheMooch. Luckily DH hasn't got cancer but has other serious health issues and a chronic condition, he's also overweight and has lots of bad lifestyle habits (that's a whole new thread!), I really thought he would be the first to catch covid. Would be interesting to know if he has anti-bodies or what's going on, would love to have him tested, especially if it would help with research for possible cure and treatment.

Thanks, I am very lucky, its not curable but can have treatment to keep me kicking about for ages.

It is soo worrying when there's a vulnerable one in the family. I'd thought my ctap immune system would make me 1st one down in our household. Hope your DH avoids it.

We are a family of 6 and dh didn't catch it when all the rest of us had it. We didn't bother to isolate as we thought it would be a forgone conclusion he would get it. He was around the kids and we slept in the same bed and more...

DP, DS and DD2 all got it along with my mum who doesnt live with us but had visited. We didnt isolate anyone as the children are to little for that but me and DD1 didnt catch it.

DD had Covid the week before Christmas, none of us got it, I drove her to and from school twice, and to and from the testing centre without masks too.

I currently have Covid. DH - who I share a bed with - does not.

Me.

First time, DS1 had it and gave it to DS2 and DH. I was around each of them lots before they tested positive, drove them for PCRs, DS2 sneezed on me doing his test, etc. They did each isolate once they were positive. Me and DH were double vaxxed. I tested every day for two weeks and was always negative.

Second time, DS2 had it, but the rest of us avoided it. Me and DH were triple vaxxed and DS1 had one jab by this point. We all tested every day for two weeks and were always negative.

I've also been somewhere where I was later informed there had been a covid outbreak. LFTs all negative.

So it is possible. I don't understand it at all though.

September of 2020 our adult DD got covid but her partner or children didn't get it.
March 2021her partner got covid and her children but she didn't.
I have cancer and have been very careful for the 2 years. Last weekend we went
away for 3 nights. I tested positive on Tuesday and I feel full of cold yet DH is negative.
Funny viruse.

I have a friend whose children have been positive multiple times and she's not caught it. She is working from home and a single mum and hasn't isolated away.

There is a study ongoing as to why some people don't catch it or who don't get infected even when the virus is put up their nose!

Interesting, would love to know why some people don't get it and if it depends on the variant they're exposed to.
I still feel awful, DH still testing negative and it's been two weeks today since DD1 first had some symptoms.

I have heard of lots of families where at least one escaped Covid when the rest were ill.
Some were sensible and tried limiting contact (e.g food and drink to room etc.), others with young kids were resigned to getting ill...but didn't.

It is something that they are investigating, along with a genetic predisposition.

When DH and I had it last summer DD managed to escape it. When I had it in January both DD and DH didn't get it. However we all had it in February 2020 and DD tested positive last Wednesday, three days before DH and I did. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it, in this house at least!

I had Covid at Christmas 2020. I'm now fully jabbed and boostered. My double jabbed daughter (no booster) got it this Boxing Day and her boyfriend (double jabbed, no booster), who lives with us, tested positive the following day. My other daughter (un-vaxxed) tested positive about 4 days later. I didn't get it this time round at all.

Yes. DP had it first lock down. No LFTs then either. DP tested positive but me and our two DDS didn't.

DD1 is currently positive so we will see if we all get it now
