Asthmatic with Covid

Tested positive this morning.
Chest feels rattly but ok so far, cough is awful though. Mostly just feeling anxious that it’s going to be difficult breathing and get worse? I am triple vaxxed and trying to reassure myself but the not knowing is awful.

Im asthmatic and had covid three weeks ago. It didn't affect my breathing at all, although I've kept up with the preventative inhalers. It was actually less bother than colds I've had for for affecting the chest.

Theunamedcat · 15/03/2022 20:17

Should be OK just resist the urge to not move about my old doctor was a regular advocate for moving around she told me off for not moving with swine flu (I developed a chest infection) so when we had covid we moved around the garden daily and despite some pretty horrible chest symptoms we didn't get a chest infection 😂 might be nonsense might be true if it works it works

My adult DS has covid at the moment and also asthmatic, he has upped his steroid inhaler to 4 times a day and takes his reliever throughout the day. He is on day 4 now and improving slightly each day.

I'm asthmatic and had covid 4 weeks ago. Unpleasant but not overly difficult at the time but I will admit I seem to be taking longer than I would expect to recover - still breathless if I walk upstairs/uphill.

@Mindymomo, do you mind me asking which steroid inhaler your son is on? Understood that I absolutely should not take mine (Symbicort) more than twice a day. There have been times when I've had a cold and I've thought using it more might help but ......

actiongirl1978 · 15/03/2022 20:37

I've had covid twice and a hacking cough both times and I'm a long term asthmatic.

The cough didn't have any impact on my asthma I was quite able to separate the two things in my mind and I wasn't any tighter in the chest either time.

Hope you feel better soon op

actiongirl1978 · 15/03/2022 20:39

Ps. Are you sure about the symbicort? I took that a few years ago and was allowed to take it more than twice a day as its both reliever and preventer in one.

HermioneWeasley · 15/03/2022 20:40

I used my blue inhaler a lot for a couple of days when i had it - don’t be afraid to use it, that’s what it’s for

ThisisMax · 15/03/2022 20:41

Hello asthmatic and covid recovered here. I did not use my inhaler more but I did make sure I exercised and also slept lots. A good anti viral such as green olive leaf and fresh thyme tea were very good for me. (Google the thyme tea clinical studies!) Good luck. Great u are vaxxed, it will help.

Schlerp · 15/03/2022 20:44

I’m asthmatic and covid didn’t affect my asthma while I had the virus. I’ve had my asthma under control for 2 decades but since covid in January I’ve been actively needing my Inhalers and getting wheezy easier. Nothing scary just irritating.

thaegumathteth · 15/03/2022 20:47

Kids and I are all asthmatic and all had covid. None of us struggled.

Mooey89 · 15/03/2022 20:49

Thank you all for the reassurance

I have moderate asthma & have had covid twice. Usually, even a mild cold triggers asthma issues but neither cases of covid went to my chest at all.. I was surprised but I’ve heard lots of similar reports 🤷🏼‍♀️

ChoiceMummy · 15/03/2022 21:15

I was a cev shielding asthmatic.

I've had antibiotics and steroids with my current first covid infection. My peakflow, sats and HBR are all over the place. No consistency at all.

I started with a sore throat 4 days before actually showed as positive. And sadly all of my silent wheeze attacks have been with sore throats in the mix.

I felt rough yesterday but better today, but the cough is worse today than it has been. I was eligible for the antivirals but they have too many people in the queue so lots of us have fallen off the list and just got to see how we go as they apparently can't get through the list of eligible covid positives atm where I am. 😭

@actiongirl1978, yes I'm sure I was told this, in fact pharmacist asked why I needed a replacement when I'd "used it too often". But, given I didn't know it was a reliever as well as a preventer, I now am v v much doubting what I thought I knew ( long term asthmatic with copd also).
