Lft type being sent

HelloMist · 12/03/2022 12:48

Could anyone who's ordered LFTs by post in the last few days confirm which type they've received, please? (Flowflex, NHS branded blue and white box or something else). Thanks.

Not sure the NHS ones are as good at detecting a case early on and those are what we have.

We recently had the nhs blue and white ones. All 4 of us who had it tested positive a few days before symptoms started and I tested negative on orient gene on the same day I got a strong positive from the blue and white one so I wouldn't worry too much

HelloMist · 12/03/2022 12:59

Good to know, thanks! (Hope you are feeling better now).

My DD has tested pos on two flowflex either side of neg NHS one.

Off for PCRs now!

changenametimeagain · 12/03/2022 13:01

She has a cough, to add.

PickAChew · 12/03/2022 13:03

The NHS ones are supposed to be better for detecting Omicron as it's more likely to start in the throat than the nose.

FlipFlopsMakeMyToesCold · 12/03/2022 13:10

We have been getting the blue and white box sent (the one for throat and nose)

Jules912 · 12/03/2022 13:37

We've been getting the blue and white throat ones since January with the occasional flowflex thrown in. I was starting to wonder if they actually worked then DH tested positive on one this morning.
Pharmacy's only seem to have the blue and white ones too.

Frosty1000 · 12/03/2022 13:53

Just got the blue/white ones today. I had my doubts as to whether they worked so I tested my positive ds (from flowflex yesterday) and yes it works with the tiniest sample.

TypicaIMe · 13/03/2022 07:32

I've been stocking up while they're still available - me, DD and DH have been ordering a pack each every 72 hours. All of them have been the NHS ones for weeks now.

DH always tests faintly positive on the NHS ones, although now he's actually positive the line is a dirty great black stripe as opposed to a squinter.

ItsSnowJokes · 13/03/2022 07:37

I feel like I have won the lottery if I get the flowflex tests. We have had the blue and white ones since January with probably 4 or 5 flowflex ones thrown in.

TypicaIMe · 13/03/2022 07:56

I have two boxes of Flowflex left which I'm saving for special occasions Grin

HelloMist · 21/03/2022 21:13

thanks for the replies. I feel the same @typicalme! But only had 3 tests left and have used 2 Hmm They are the type Boots sell, I've noticed. I wonder if supermarkets will start to sell them too now (and add some competition to the pricing).

Could I ask if someone has had flowflex this week? Now it's looking like the last week to get any free. Thank you.

There’s none available to order online just now. Plus the blurb on website suggests most people don’t need to test and that only certain groups should have the LFT kits.

HelloMist · 21/03/2022 22:50

Hadn't seen the new blurb, hmm interesting. Thanks.

I've got the blue and white ones. I'm only going to be doing my nose though as I can't swab my throat.

danni0509 · 22/03/2022 18:06

I like the flowflex. My ds is autistic and can’t test him at all, he was poorly at the weekend, cough etc. Used a flow flex up his nose when he fell asleep, quick in and out 3 seconds max, positive within a few seconds.

Gov website has no tests at all, (don’t know if it’s by area?) I tried to order some and it wouldn’t let me.

changingstages · 22/03/2022 18:26

I've had the blue and white ones only for the last three months or so; a friend who lives about half a mile away has only had Flowflex! I far prefer Flowflex.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 22/03/2022 18:26

The blurb has changed and it says “ no need to test anymore so you don’t need to order a test, nothing to see here”

So I went to boots and was fairly shocked by the cost. So I don’t know what’s happening. Schools are requiring a test for symptoms and 10 days off til negative. So it’s a bit worrying.

Only positive is that boots sell the flow flex “luxury” version.

danni0509 · 22/03/2022 18:38

@DobbyTheHouseElk do you know how much they are in boots please?

DobbyTheHouseElk · 22/03/2022 18:45

Think it was £17 for 5 something in that region.

Individual ones were £3something I think. Maybe 3.95

DobbyTheHouseElk · 22/03/2022 18:45

People won’t be testing at that price.

Ilovemypyjamas2021 · 22/03/2022 18:52

I’ve recently had COVID & use the standard LFTs (nose & throat) as nose only as I can’t tolerate the throat bit. They worked fine as nose only tests for me (it does say in the booklet that you can test nose only for children so thought I’d try)

neveradullmoment99 · 22/03/2022 18:55

This. We have had these everytime! I hate them!
JS87 · 22/03/2022 18:55

I haven’t been sent flowflex for a month or so. I agree they are more sensitive. I swab my nose and throat with the flowflex. On the first day of symptoms I had a clear line with flowflex and had to squint to see the line on the nhs one. By the next day the nhs had a really thick line so I think it only really matters which one you use at the start.
