No clean before jab?

My son had his booster this evening.

When administered, his arm wasn't cleaned with an antiseptic wipe. He lifted his sleeve and the needle went straight in.

I appreciate that it's very unlikely anything will happen as a result of this, but I was surprised by this.

I've had 3 jabs, no cleaning for any of them.

Guidance is when giving an injection the area of skin is only cleaned if it looks dirty , your son will be fine

Swabbing the skin pre injections hasn't been recommended for years. Most people are clean these days and for the alcohol swab to be of use, the skin should be left to dry before administering the injection, which no one ever did.
We would only clean the skin if it was visibly dirty at the site.

Have had 3 injections and no cleaning involved

Thanks all.

I was definitely swabbed for my booster. Can't remember if I was for the first 2.

I grew up with an insulin injecting mum, so I guess old habits die hard.

Thanks again.

As pp said, we don’t swab unless the arm is visibly dirty.
