Sinuses, anyone?!?!

JungleJimbo · 07/03/2022 20:42

I'm day 7 with covid, presumably omicron

The last 3 days my sinuses have felt AWFUL.
I don't have a runny nose at all, not snotty.

But my sinuses are SO congested, I have a constant sinus headache and can just feel pain and pressure in my sinuses

Sudafed tabs, otrivine nasal spray, steam inhalation, paracetamol and ibuprofen are not touching it

I've never had even a hint of sinus issues before

Anyone else had/have this, and if so how long did it last?! Any tips? Miserable..

I had this with covid. On day 9 now and it's finally eased. No tips I'm afraid, just sympathy. Hope you feel better soon.

JungleJimbo · 07/03/2022 21:01

Glad you're feeling better, gives me hope that in 2 days I might be feeling better!

Me and DH both had this and it took a couple of weeks to fully go, though it was a gradual improvement so started to feel better earlier than that.

Rainbowgravy · 08/03/2022 14:54

Yes my sinuses are blocked and feel like someone has poured acid up my nose. They are excruciatingly painful. I'm trying various decongestants, antihistamines. Having a bath/ shower is quite soothing.

spiderlight · 08/03/2022 15:14

I had this. It felt as if my sinuses were full of concrete, with massive pressure just below the bridge of my nose. It took about 2-3 weeks to shift, sorry :(

whatisforteamum · 08/03/2022 16:50

Yes making my teeth and ears ache.grim

TheVanguardSix · 08/03/2022 16:57

I had covid over Christmas and that was my main 'pain in the ass' of the whole thing... the whole sinus headache was just the pits and relentless. The red packaged Sudafed was the only thing that made a small dent. I had another package of Sudafed (not the red one) and it didn't touch it, nor did paracetamol or ibuprofen. But the latter combined with the red packaged Sudafed did sort of help a bit. I also took a lot of forest oil baths. I had a bottle of Aromatherapy Associates Forest Therapy oil, which is amazing but way too expensive. Order a bottle of (not Olbas Oil) Olbas Bath from Amazon. A soak in that will really help your head, OP.
I've had a chronic runny nose ever since I had covid. That's just a problem I never had, a runny nose, even with flu and colds. But it's what I've been left with (even though I didn't have an actual runny nose when I had covid... the runny nose was sort of a parting gift. Yay!). Healthy wishes to you, OP.

Yes! Earache... painful teeth... horrible. I had the same.
Yoyokitten · 12/03/2022 00:29

Yep exactly as you describe.
I think I ought to have shares in Lemsip and Day Nurse. The worst thing for me, apart from bad headache and sinus pain, is a blocked ear. It's driving me potty.

Stormchaser1502 · 12/03/2022 00:50

Snap!!
Hideous sinus pain and pressure in the bridge of my nose!! It’s causing me to mouth breath which in turn is making me so thirsty!
It’s the pits!

FortunaMajor · 12/03/2022 01:26

I had sinus issues for years that were largely solved by surgery, but every so often I still get a sinus headache.

All of my go to remedies of decongestant, olbas oil and Vicks nasal stick have failed me this time, so I grabbed a jar of white tiger balm in desperation last night and put it just above my eyebrow on the problem side. (Didn't want to get it too close to my eye). Took about half an hour to work, but did lift the worst of it off.

Interesting to hear others have tooth and gum ache too. That answers a question for me. This sucks. Hope everyone is feeling loads better soon.

Zolla · 12/03/2022 10:14

I’m 6 months post covid & STILL have horrendous sinuses. Doc said it’s inflammation caused by the covid 🤦🏼‍♀️ Been referred for some scans ..

pinkpirlie · 13/03/2022 21:15

Oh my gosh, this is me right now. Just posted a thread as haven't heard of anyone else with similar symptoms, and then scrolled through several pages and found yours.

I'm 2 weeks now with awful sinuses, no other covid symptoms at all. Meant to be flying to Spain at the weekend, but thinking I'm going to have to cancel.

The feeling like your teeth are falling out is hideous. I've had sinus issues before so know that feeling well. Haven't slept properly in 2 weeks. I'm so snappy and miserable.

pixels123 · 13/03/2022 21:20

I was just about to say tiger balm but noticed someone already said it.
I used the red one as it really heats up, but white is good too.
I have reoccurring sinus problems but covid was awful. Tiger balm was the only thing that worked but a hot water bottle on the forehead helped a little too.
Rub it above both eyebrows and down the centre but keep it away from eyes. Don't scratch as it heats up.
Hope you feel better soon.

FortunaMajor · 13/03/2022 21:48

It was me who spoke about the tiger balm. I have both red and white so I will try the red one too to see which is most effective for me. I've always used white for headache type stuff and red for muscular pain. Thanks for the tip.

Sorry just reread that you had surgery, that sounds so rough. Mine have been an issue since I had cellulitis years ago, possibly scarring but never been bad enough to investigate. So I really feel for you. Tiger balm is one of the best things ever. It helps my sinuses, healed my fungal nail helps with head aches, magic stuff.
Buzzinwithbez · 13/03/2022 22:10

Yes, swollen/inflamed and dry.
Neti pot/nasal rinses helped

FortunaMajor · 13/03/2022 22:13

To be honest, the surgery was a really positive thing. It isn't a fun process or recovery, but the long term results have been brilliant. I've only had a handful of much more minor problems since I had it done. Beforehand I would have gladly taken a drill to my own head to try to relieve the pressure.

youhadmeatjello · 13/03/2022 22:15

Yes I had this. Three weeks later and I still have it every morning when I wake up but it does go throughout the day

Partyatnumber10 · 13/03/2022 22:16

Yes, for all my family members the sinus issues were the worst thing about Covid.

mummabubs · 13/03/2022 23:03

So... Can I ask has anyone got the sinus issues without any of the other traditional symptoms and knows it's covid? I had a really nasty chest infection in January (not covid) and have now got clogged sinuses, earache which then became deafness in one ear (diagnosed this week as ETD but the Dr didn't ask me if I'd ruled out covid). I haven't taken an lft yet as I don't have a cough, temp, no change of taste or smell and no cold like symptoms at all, just the ear and sinus issues. But now I'm wondering whether I should take one tomorrow morning just in case this is how covid presents these days? 🤦🏻‍♀️

pinkpirlie · 13/03/2022 23:23

I only have the sinus infection, no traditional covid symptoms whatsoever. Testing positive on LFT. Not done PCR.

Ah, OK I'll test first thing then. Thanks for replying.
Frosty1000 · 14/03/2022 07:31

On day 2 but I've had a burning sensation in my sinuses along with congestion. Found the orange sterimar a great help before using otrivine. Hope you all feel better soon.

Kage30 · 14/03/2022 11:33

Sinus pain was my main and worse covid symptom, my sinuses were on fire as well as my head pain but in my case I do have existing sinus issues anyway so not a new thing but covid sinuses are awful. I had covid in December and the worst was over in 10 days but my sinuses still play up more than usual since covid a few months on...I wake up bunged up most mornings, fine as the day goes on. I am now using NeilMed daily.

I do not use decongestants at all. I find they make things worse.

Hot/warm/room temp drinks only, cold drinks make sinuses more inflamed!

Steamy showers.

I used heat wheat bags and draped over my face.

Saline nasal spray - as above I don't use decongestants.

Regular painkillers, I mean clockwork alternating ibuprofen and paracetamol. If I missed a dose my head would feel like it was gonna explode.

Hope you feel better soon!
