Why am I still having to take a test and up load it to NHS website ,and book at slot rest homes convenience to see my mum
Covid restrictions are lifted ,staff are not taking daily tests ,so why do visitors

Unless it’s government policy that rest home visitors must test first ,and I’ve somehow missed that information

They are trying to protect their residents???

How do you know staff aren't testing all the homes rounds here still require testing

Mindymomo · 07/03/2022 13:17

I would personally be happy for care home residents visitors and staff continue testing, it only takes a couple of minutes and if it saves someone vulnerable catching covid then it’s for the best.

GandTfortea · 07/03/2022 13:18

Staff are not testing every day ,before every shift

Yes Mindy ,I’d totally agree with you ,if all staff were triple vaccinated like me ,and also testing every time they go to work …but they are not

Government guidelines are guided by politics, not science. Care homes have to do what is best for their residents.

LadyGardenersQuestionTime · 07/03/2022 13:20

Ask the home what their policy is, and why. Each home can make its own decision about visiting but if you challenge them they will have to justify their decisions.

GandTfortea · 07/03/2022 13:59

I’m just having a moan on here ,because I know I can’t realistically challenge the rest ,it looks bad if I do ,like I don’t care for the residents welfare .
But it’s annoying me having to dance to their tune regarding appointments when they can fit me in ,and insisting on a test I’m going to have to pay for .
It will put people of visiting ,and people in homes will be left with no visitors

Surely you want to anyway? None of my parents or in laws are in care homes and are independent but they all have illnesses that make them vulnerable to being really ill/dying from covid so before we see any of them we all test. It takes 20 seconds to do 5 circles round each nostril then 30 seconds putting it in the pot then leave the test on the side for 15 minutes while you get ready. Surely it’s not that big a thing to do to keep your Mum safer?

Florin · 07/03/2022 14:05

Oh and tests you are completely free to order a pack every 3 days per person at the moment so order some to at least keep you going.

110APiccadilly · 07/03/2022 14:15

I think asking for a test is fair enough at the moment while they're free. Booking a slot seems OTT. Having worked in a home, sadly it would be unusual to have so many visitors at once that you couldn't manage.

GandTfortea · 07/03/2022 15:12

Florin,thanks ,I’ve just ordered some ,
Got it in my head I had to pay at boots now

110A picalliy yes ,only 11 residents in the home ,and plenty of staff .
I’m narked I can’t roll up to visit when I’ve got spare time ,I’m crap at planning ,my day is full ,and I need to be able to pop in and out to see her when I need to with out having to email in .in advance to see if they are free to allow me in ,and then take a test and then up load it

I’m in the same boat with my dad.

Just try and order some tests while you still can. You’ll probably get people telling you that you shouldn’t stockpile. But I live on a very tight budget. There’s not a lot of leeway. Every pound is accounted for. Buying LFT would mean having to adjust that very tight budget and I am all my dad has.

Luckily the home he’s just moved to only want to know a few hours in advance for a visit or taking him out.
