Pinged last night

So last night I got a ping on the nhs app saying I'd been in contact with someone one the 2nd who tested posted and that I needed to isolate for 10 days. I was in a&e the 2nd all day and then home but didn't have to scan the thing on entering so not sure what's going on. My question is are we still isolating if testing negative Confused I'm not sure where we're at with all this now. Can someone help? Thanks

Think you might be the last person in the country still using the app!

thecatneuterer · 03/03/2022 17:16

Well that can't be right can it? Mandatory isolation has ended. How odd though.

hellcatspangle · 03/03/2022 17:17

Why on earth have you still got that app?

TellMeMoreHellebore · 03/03/2022 17:21

Delete the app!!

RachC2021 · 03/03/2022 17:26

Your phone has been close enough to someone else’s phone for long enough that you could be infected, if you were with your phone all that time. Nothing to do with scanning a QR code, your phone pings nearby phones via Bluetooth too.

Up to you if you isolate now, if you’re in England. It’s no longer law.

To those saying: delete the app — why? It’s useful information to have if you’re planning on visiting elderly parents/grandparents or immunocompromised people. Whilst I might choose to not isolate I would let anytime vulnerable know and offer to delay meeting them.

LIZS · 03/03/2022 17:32

Are you sure it is not a scam text?

cheesychipsfan · 03/03/2022 17:33

Tbh I forgot to delete it and I also thought they'd done away with it (so I read) so didn't think it would even go off. I was very surprised to be pinged by it. Thanks to pp who said about the Bluetooth I didn't know that I thought you had to scan the code thing because I wondered how they knew to ping me lol I'm home all the time anyway but I'll do another lft Saturday morning and delete the app Confused thanks guys

Whether you need to isolate as a close contact depends where in the UK you are and what your vaccination status is.

PurpleDaisies · 03/03/2022 17:35

Where are you in the uk?
I was also pinged yesterday but since I’m fully vaccinated, it means nothing any more.

PurpleDaisies · 03/03/2022 17:36

This is what the app says about self isolation now

I’m not sure how useful it can possibly be. I have mine on out of interest - I re-added the scanning / Bluetooth bit in August when isolation of contacts ended (I know the app was never legally binding but I guess morally…). I have never once been pinged! I live in London and during December omicron surge I went out repeatedly to theatres, restaurants, soft play, took the underground and busy trains - even to one of the few events that ever actually required a Covid pass due to size. Not once this whole time …
cheesychipsfan · 03/03/2022 17:45

Thank you @PurpleDaisies I'm in the south east.

In that case there’s no need to isolate any more (England guidance). I would think carefully about how you meet anyone vulnerable though. That’s what I’m doing.

thedarkling · 03/03/2022 18:23

You don't need to isolate even if you test positive so surely just ignore?

Ripriderockit · 03/03/2022 21:23

The app was never law anyway was it? Only if test and trace told you to isolate was.
Ignore.

PurpleDaisies · 03/03/2022 22:25

I’m surprised it’s still telling you that. Have you definitely got the most up to date version?

I don’t get the hate for the app now. It has no actual impact on my life except that I know I’m at a slightly increased risk of having caught covid. That means I can take more care around those I know are vulnerable.

rainbowandglitter · 03/03/2022 22:50

That's bizarre. There's no isolation in England anymore even if you're positive. Are you sure its not a scam?
