Long covid... sinus issues!

Hello all. I had covid in December. It was all upper respiratory symptoms with aching legs etc. My sinus pain, head pain and pressure because of it was by far the worst symptom, I don't have great sinuses anyway so throw in covid and it was awful.

Anyway, ever since I've had so many issues with my sinuses. I wake up feeling and looking like a have a cold every morning, after an hour or two I'm fine then comes back again in the evening. It is not a cold because it would mean I've had a 3 month cold now...

My nose runs, my throat feels weird, sinus pain, nose pain, dry throat etc.

Anyone else had this? Other people talk about breathing issues, fatigue etc as long covid. I don't have that. It's all upper respiratory symptoms.

Any suggestions? After a hot steamy shower I usually feel better but my nose runs like a tap after.

This was my most lingering symptom too, a combination of sinus and allergy symptoms. Some people on long covid thread last year were using antihistamines (I didn't as even the non drowzy ones make me feel drained as tried in the past for hay fever). What did take me a while to discover was that if I stopped using paracetamol for the pain and switched to ibruprophen it helped. The pain would take 2-3 hours to resolve so I think it was the anti Inflammatory effect that helps. I'm of the opinion that a lot of the long covid symptoms are inflammatory in nature.

I've started using a Saline Nasal Spray and I think its helping.

I could have written this. I have all these symptoms 6 months post covid. My sinuses are a complete mess. It’s like having a constant cold.. I take painkillers every day for the sinus headaches 😭 it’s driving me insane. The doctors have no idea, I’ve tried saline nasal spray (does help for a bit), steroid nasal spray, tablet steroids & antibiotics 🤦🏼‍♀️

Do you have any smell/taste issues? I have distorted smell & taste as well 🥴

I’ve always had sinus problems but literally have ju at been complaining to DH that since covid I’ve had permanent sinus headaches and blockages since having covid on sept 21

Also I only got my sense of smell back in December but since then it’s been wrong. Everything smells weird and rotten

I have had long running sinus problems since I almost certainly had covid in spring 2020. I cut down dramatically on dairy products, especially in tea and coffee. Also wearing masks as little as possible helped hugely. I live in Scotland where they are still mandatory but don’t wear them except in medical settings. Feel a lot better now.

Interesting as wearing a mask makes my nose run like a bloody tap. Feels hideous if I wear one too long! Not good it's lasted so long for you! 😪

Thanks all. Interesting to know others have the same. I woke Up with my nose running like a tap today but okay this evening. My sinuses aren't great at the best of times but usually manageable.

I lost smell/taste completely with covid but better now. It's not perfect now, but okay. Taste most things, but sometimes food is bland. Everything tasted off for a while but that has gone. I can also smell most things fine but some things not at all. For instance I can't smell my oven when it's on (I know it smells and needs cleaning 😅), I cannot smell body odour - worried what if I smell?!, also cannot smell when my kids have been to the toilet or when Dp has wind - tmi I know but it isn't a bad thing I guess 😅 I can't really smell food whilst it's cooking either but can taste it. But I can smell some things miles off and seems heightened, perfume, candles, anything heavily fragranced, I could smell petrol earlier and it was making me feel queasy (hate the smell of petrol)! It's strange how some things are fine, if anything heightened but some things totally dull.

I have bought some neilmed (I think that's the correct name) today! So wish me luck 🤞 will try some saline spray. Don't like decongestants and don't want to use them really. Find they can make things worse and raise my BP like crazy!

Thanks @Userno36372846 sinuses much better since I cut down on mask wearing, only three more weeks to go in Scotland. Apologies to everyone else this wasn’t meant to be an anti mask rant. Have had lots of sprays and nose cream from my GP but found that dietary changes made a big difference as well.

I get sinusitis every time I get a cold, see your GP and get a nasal steroid spray like Avamys. Works a treat. In the meantime, perhaps try nasal douching (Google will help you with this).
