Just wondering really as friends kids have tested positive and she said they are gutted they don't have to stay off school. As a teacher I'm not looking forward to be surrounded by more germs 😭

I guess when free tests stop most people will stop even testing
Unless they keep them for schools but thaT seems unlikely

worriedatthemoment · 25/02/2022 14:24

I had zero symptoms really when ai had covid only tested because ds had it, otherwise i would never of really known and this is the case for some kids or its a slight sniffle so people won't know
The funny thing is we used to be told to send kids in when ill as they were so worried about attendance
I had a couple of conversations with school about time off for my boys where I kept them home as they were unwell or off for 48 hrs after a sickness bug and was threatened with shitty letters

Fundays12 · 25/02/2022 14:28

If I know they have covid they won't be going to school but I won't be testing them going forward as tests are going to cost too much for a family of 5 to do frequently.

TicTacHoh · 25/02/2022 14:55

If they are poorly, I will keep them at home as always, but we are not testing any longer.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 25/02/2022 15:52

My school emailed saying staff and kids with covid must stay home until 2 negative LFT and those with symptoms need to test

Phew

Have your school said they will be providing tests or is this just until the free tests stop? They aren’t going to be able to enforce that people pay for tests so assume this is until end of March?

Again, school will only know about this if people actually test. If DS's school requested this I'll be lying to them and say I've tested even though I won't be.
Svara · 25/02/2022 16:10

Yes, he's year 11. If he's not there he will miss important teaching. We won't know anyway if no tests.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 25/02/2022 16:10

@Overthebow

They’ve said they’ll provide til April and have asked families to use this time to source some tests for their family.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 25/02/2022 16:11

@Waxonwaxoff0

I assume your child can talk? Will you ask them
To lie?

Svara · 25/02/2022 16:14

@NoSquirrels

Why would you bother testing them if you’re not going to take any action if the result is positive? What on earth would be the point?
To know to keep him away from his 87 year old great grandmother. If he is unwell he would stay away anyway, but he might test if he has mild symptoms.

Bravo protect your loved ones and fuck all others.!

PurpleDaysAreHereAgain · 25/02/2022 16:17

Our school has not yet said what they expect. (We are still on half term).

TBH I think I am unlikely to send them in. I am CV, I have a CV DS and I would just not want to be responsible for perhaps infecting others. I don't care what BJ said to save his popularity, I don't think ending self isolation is sensible. I am still testing twice a week as well and will pay for tests going forward.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 25/02/2022 16:18

@PurpleDaysAreHereAgain

Self isolation hasn’t ended just the legal requirement to has

Wizzbangfizz · 25/02/2022 16:19

I won't be testing them. If they are unwell enough not to not be in school then I won't send them in.

PurpleDaysAreHereAgain · 25/02/2022 16:20

@taylorsdoingapart

I sent my positive child in today because school said I had to or they would mark it as unauthorised and fine me. I spoke to two members of staff to check they definitely wanted him in and they did
That is completely outrageous.
buddylicious · 25/02/2022 16:22

We've had a message home from school to say that the government have advised schools that kids and teachers need to stay home until they've had two negative tests!

gogohm · 25/02/2022 16:22

If you are ill stay at home but there's no need to test well children so you won't know they have covid anymore

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 25/02/2022 16:22

@grapehyacinthisactuallyblue

I wouldn't. And I do hope the parent who send positive kids to school inform the school if they know, so those vulnerable can stay away.
Unless you have a co-operative head teacher, the vulnerable child will be expected to be at school too.
OnceuponaRainbow18 · 25/02/2022 16:22

@taylorsdoingapart

You should sent them this: from the DfE:

Children and young people with COVID-19 should not attend their education setting while they are infectious. They should take an LFD test from 5 days after their symptoms started (or the day their test was taken if they did not have symptoms) followed by another one the next day. If both these tests results are negative, they should return to their educational setting if they normally attend one, as long as they feel well enough to do so and do not have a temperature. They should follow the guidance for their educational setting.

No I know, but the fact the legal requirement has ended means that workplaces and schools (as demonstrated above) can and will place pressure on people to come in. I wfh and part time so I can stay out of the office and my Dcs are in a private school that are not under the fining system so i can keep them off. But others have pressure placed on them with the cry of 'but you are allowed to come in now'. When the government stops legal requirements, stops financial supporrt and bangs on weakly about 'personal responsibility' all it does is makes things really hard for those at the mercy of punitive responses from school or work.

I doubt he'd need to, can't see schools grilling the kids on whether they've tested or not.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 25/02/2022 16:29

@Waxonwaxoff0

When I’m Teaching and a kid is coughing away or looks ill I certainly ask them if they’ve been tested. Most wouldn’t lie

caringcarer · 25/02/2022 16:29

I won't be testing 3 yes a week anymore. If child seems unwell I will test but if they seem well I won't be testing. If I tested and they were positive I would keep home and teach them myself (early retired teacher) as in Year 11 so exams in summer so his friends and peers can't afford to get sick.

bobsholi · 25/02/2022 16:33

I'll still be sending them in. I work in a school and can't be taking loads of days off between them all. These are the rules now.
