If your child tests positive for covid are you going to send them to school still?

Just wondering really as friends kids have tested positive and she said they are gutted they don't have to stay off school. As a teacher I'm not looking forward to be surrounded by more germs 😭

I imagine parents won’t be testing their children anymore though so they wouldn’t know if their child was positive or negative?

Jules912 · 24/02/2022 19:35

No as our school have said symptomatic or positive children should follow the guidance and not be in. Assumed it was the same for all schools.

cansu · 24/02/2022 19:35

What will happen is most parents will send them in. Some parents will use covid as an excuse for absence.

musicalfrog · 24/02/2022 19:35

I won't be testing them so 🤷🏻‍♀️

WellThatsMeScrewed · 24/02/2022 19:37

Not going to test them at every sniffle and sneeze. So won’t know. I’m not willing for my kids to miss any more education if well.

TheSnowyOwl · 24/02/2022 19:37

I won’t be doing periodic checks unless symptomatic and if symptomatic, they likely won’t be well enough for school.

Popplebop · 24/02/2022 19:38

Well our secondary school has stuck with with ‘positive test please stay off at least 5 days and have the two negative LFTs 24 hrs apart before coming back’. But I imagine you would now only test if you have been in contact with Covid case or feeling ill? I actually have a teenager off with covid at the moment. Can go back in for Monday if negative Sunday and Monday AM.

SpringRainbow · 24/02/2022 19:40

My school is still requiring symptomatic testing, so they won’t be going in.

Neolara · 24/02/2022 19:40

I suspect your friend has completely misunderstood the situation. The school will expect any covid positive kids to stay off. Of course some parents won't test. But your friend has tested.

grapehyacinthisactuallyblue · 24/02/2022 19:42

I wouldn't. And I do hope the parent who send positive kids to school inform the school if they know, so those vulnerable can stay away.

Userblabla · 24/02/2022 19:43

I’ll still be testing mine if they have symptoms because they have very regular contact with vulnerable family members. So if they’re positive they’ll be off school for at least 5 days. I won’t keep their sibling off anymore though if they’re not showing symptoms and are testing negative.

TheSnowyOwl · 24/02/2022 19:59

If I knew my child had covid, then yes I would keep them at home. I think not knowing or bothering to test is different to knowing full well they have the virus and sending them in regardless.

Moody123 · 24/02/2022 20:07

I won't be testing so wouldn't know

Cuppaand2biscuits · 24/02/2022 20:07

No way would I send either of my children to school while they were testing positive.
We've all had Covid twice now and the second time one child was totally asymptomatic, I still wouldn't send her in.
But difference is, I wouldn't know now because I will only be testing if they have symptoms.

DogsAndGin · 24/02/2022 20:15

@WellThatsMeScrewed

Not going to test them at every sniffle and sneeze. So won’t know. I’m not willing for my kids to miss any more education if well.
But won’t they miss education if the teachers get symptomatic covid from untested kids and can’t come in (as the teachers will have to test and have to isolate as per gvmt guidelines).
twinkletoesimnot · 24/02/2022 20:19

We have been told we don't have to test anymore actually.

twinkletoesimnot · 24/02/2022 20:19

Teachers that is....

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 24/02/2022 20:21

DfE guidelines: those with symptoms stay off school and those who are positive stay off school

Usernumber5253747293 · 24/02/2022 20:21

My thinking is that parents won't even be testing anymore so won't know if the kids actually have it or only testing if their kids are actually quite poorly. My kids had minimal symptoms with covid, I would have easily missed it. I was only testing them as me and dp had it, then Dd got it again after an outbreak in her school. They had none of the main three symptoms, barely poorly at all. So it's going to be easily missed for a lot of kids anyway 🤷‍♀️

By April we won't have access to free tests. Are parents really going to pay for a test every time their kids get cold like symptoms?? because covid is like a cold for many!

As a parent, if my kids seem poorly I will keep them off for a few days or until better. If they have mild cold symptoms and it's mild, I'll probably send them in!

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 24/02/2022 20:22

@Usernumber5253747293

They may have to as schools will ask. Maybe they’ll Announce free testing for school kids to continue

JammyCandy · 24/02/2022 20:24

Unless I’m obliged to I won’t test anymore unless I am visiting someone vulnerable or someone who specifically asks me to test

Fedupsotired · 24/02/2022 20:26

Our numbers dropped dramatically and we all thought this was because parents stopped testing as they couldn't afford to keep their children at home.

Notdoingthis · 24/02/2022 20:30

I never tested them unless symptomatic anyway. But as a teacher, I am fine with testing stopping. I am sick of isolations.

Tynetime · 24/02/2022 20:32

No

Tynetime · 24/02/2022 20:33

But than again I wouldn't know if they did not have symptoms
