She’s 11 and fine thank god but first time we’ve dealt with it. Luckily. The rest is us negative at present. Would I be ok to go out for a late walk masked about 7pm?
Probably a pathetic question sorry

In my book, “strongly advised”= supposed to, without legal repercussion.

Watapalava · 23/02/2022 19:36

Well there will be no action regardless because no one would know if it was covid
Unless obsessed enough to buy a test!

HadEnoughOfBears · 23/02/2022 19:37

@DaisyWaldron

Would you keep her at home if she had chicken pox? Omicron is both more contagious and more deadly than chicken pox.
OP isn't saying she's taking her child out though

From 1st April. Free testing doesn’t stop tomorrow and the guidance is still to stay at home for at least 5 days if you test positive- again, until 1st April.

Routine contact testing stops tomorrow. Symptom based testing- I can’t actually find detail on that.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 23/02/2022 19:44

@MelvinThePenguin

Watapalava has been against any restrictions from day 1

Watapalava · 23/02/2022 19:45

It’s gyidasnce tho

That’s the point

There is now no obligation to test or isolate

If people don’t test they don’t know if they have covid so stay off if unwell

If no isolation rule why would you bother testing unless looking for covid?

Watapalava · 23/02/2022 19:45

No

I was happy with restrictions for first 4 months

After that what we know now was obvious then

MelvinThePenguin · 23/02/2022 19:46

Ah, I see. Thanks!

Unhelpful to give incorrect information about what the official guidance is to an OP who is clearly anxious about knowing what they are.

Watapalava · 23/02/2022 19:47

I have explained the difference between guidance and law

Op can do as she chooses

Reality is op has a choice from tomorrow

MegCleary · 23/02/2022 19:50

We will be keeping her in till two negative tests and will be starting those from Sunday as directed by test and trace. The rest of us will test daily for 7 days.
I’m not a rule breaker I even asked the internet if I could go for a walk!!
As for what we do when one of the rest of us tests positive after tomorrow, I think we’ll still isolate.

OP posts:
BeenToldComputerSaysNo · 23/02/2022 20:00

There are some who won't test/isolate whatever the law/guidance/rules and they will have their reasons for that. There are others that will strive to test/isolate whatever the law/guidance/rules say, and they too will have their reasons. The new changes affect the second group more, although there will be positives and negatives to everyone from the changes.

MissMaple82 · 23/02/2022 20:01

You don't need to isolate, only her.

eastegg · 23/02/2022 22:57

@Watapalava

Your dc can go to school

Boris specifically said in his statement that this was to stop kids missing school is asymptomatic Or mild

No way will be allow schools to stop them

Kids go to school with colds and coughs

They stay home if not well enough but with anything else they go to school

Kids shouldn’t be testing now so in theory you shouldn’t know if a child has covid anyway

Boris is a lying twat saying whatever to make himself look good and save his skin. We have just had a letter from DS’s school saying they are ‘required to ensure’ - that’s the wording- that staff and students isolate for 5 days if they test positive. Totally at odds with BJ’s guff.
Watapalava · 24/02/2022 07:13

But given kids don’t get free tests soon no one can be made to have a test so the testing positive won’t happen

Kids will be merely unwell

They can’t send someone home to test anymore given not free and not recommended

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 24/02/2022 07:24

@Watapalava

Schools can send home kids that they seem unwell, as can nurseries

Watapalava · 24/02/2022 07:25

Like I said if too unwell kids won’t be in school

Covid doesn’t present as unwell in most kids

My ds has covid - day 4. Hrs fine so he’s going in

Tynetime · 24/02/2022 07:42

Still free at the moment. Just ordered some. Will be interesting to see whether schools drop testing as of today. Certainly yesterday the Secondary was still doing twice weekly ones.
I hope this strategy works but if it doesn't Boris can Say all well it's the stupid General public not listening to the guidance. Thus avoiding paying for testing etc and appeasing his party without taking any responsibility if the shit hits the fan.

Abraxan · 24/02/2022 07:45

Tests are still available for free until 1 April iirr.

Fwiw most of the children at my school who tested positive were symptomatic - it's how they knew they had it in the main. Not really unwell, but like having a heavy cold for many.

MelvinThePenguin · 24/02/2022 08:05

For the OP’s benefit and those interested in the actual guidance (I know certain posters will be intent on exercising the utmost “freedom” within the law”…

My app has not updated. However, I am still clear that I have no legal duty to isolate from today. I am advised to do so in the same way as I was legally required to yesterday and I personally feel morally obligated.

On schools, from the updated guidance:

“Children and young people with COVID-19 should not attend their education setting while they are infectious. They should take an LFD test from 5 days after their symptoms started (or the day their test was taken if they did not have symptoms) followed by another one the next day. If both these tests results are negative, they should return to their educational setting if they normally attend one, as long as they feel well enough to do so and do not have a temperature. They should follow the guidance for their educational setting.”

Yes, I know it’s not the law now, but I really don’t see schools readily accepting a child who they know is COVID+ and has not isolated for a minimum of 5 days.

They should know for anyone testing positive yesterday or before, because it was a legal requirement.

I get that it will become increasingly unlikely that cases will be confirmed as COVID (mostly from 1st April for symptomatic and asymptomatic from today). I get that there is no legal obligation to isolate. But I don’t think it will be a free for all in schools.

BooksAndHooks · 24/02/2022 08:42

@Theunamedcat

You can carry on as normal im wondering how schools are going to cope are children with mild symptoms be just going to school?
We’ve had an email saying any symptoms they have to stay at home and PCR test once they run out of rapid tests. They can only return with a negative result. I think this is going to be far more disruptive as every little cold is going to result in time off.
OnceuponaRainbow18 · 24/02/2022 08:58

@MelvinThePenguin

Can you send the link where you read that please. My kids nursery emailed saying those with symptoms can go in when feeling well

MegCleary · 24/02/2022 09:10

@MelvinThePenguin thanks for updating re the app. We are all negative bar dd who we will not test till Sunday.
I think there is much scope for madness now. I am surprised not heard from the schools what the policy is now re testing etc.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 24/02/2022 09:48

@MegCleary

Half term I guess, our head hasn’t emailed us staff yet either. She did sign off over and out on Friday!

MelvinThePenguin · 24/02/2022 10:19

@OnceuponaRainbow18

Of course. It’s here: www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-people-with-covid-19-and-their-contacts

First document, in the what to do if you have Covid section.

We’ve not officially heard from school either, but my children are both in school today (one never tested positive, 2nd is back for the first day after a second lateral flow negative on day 9 this morning). When I spoke to the head yesterday, she wasn’t expecting the second back today unless she got today’s negative. She was fab- sent a staff member to pick up DD yesterday as both DH and I were on day 1 of isolation Smile. Friends are now helping us with school runs.

MelvinThePenguin · 24/02/2022 10:23

The problem is that the schools don’t hear anything until we do. They’ll be working their way through the new guidance now, I imagine! And I’m almost certain they’ll be saying:
-Children with known COVID can’t attend
-Children with official symptoms will be expected to PCR test while still available and not return until they get a negative
