Hi so I caught covid last week , sore head for a day , 2 night sweats in a row , sore back , very tired ect but other than that I was fine thankfully, however I'm postpartum and shedding hair like a dog but I'm coping ok and I'm willing it to stop , but everyone I've talked to who has had covid has said they have post half of their hair and ended up with bald spots , I'm absolutely terrified I'm already shedding so badly , I lost my hair 10 years ago due to anorexia and I just can't do it again , I'm making myself sick with worry and I know that won't help , did anyone NOT lose their hair , I am my hair , I fail to see anything else remotely attractive about me especially after a c section , thanks

Don't stress yourself, you might have hair loss from stress, not covid.
Was ill in December, didn't notice hair shedding, same for my friends.Maybe take some Biotin, just in case.

I just had covid, 50 and unvaccinated, no hair loss here.

Pennythoughts28 · 22/02/2022 17:32

Yes I've bought so much shampoos and hair treatments scalp roller who knew that was a thing lol castor oil ect I've only ever had one panic attack and that was when I first tried a wig ten years ago , that was the moment my life changed and I started recovery, I suppose it's kicking up old feelings again , I am constantly stopped and asked is that your real hair it's down to my bum Auburn and crazy thick , I always think I'm glad I have my hair because what eles would be nice about me , to think it will go again is absolutely devastating I've spent ten years growing it x

They say it takes 3 months for it to kick in I'm hoping it's just scare mongering

I don’t know how to fix it but it definitely seems to be a thing - www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/society/2021/dec/02/the-pandemic-body-how-the-covid-era-changed-us-from-hair-loss-to-weight-gain

Authenticcelestialmusic · 22/02/2022 17:58

I don’t know anyone who has mentioned hair loss post Covid. I know the links I posted mention stress being a factor so may be worth taking up meditation, yoga/ mindfulness to reduce your stress levels proactively.

Pennythoughts28 · 22/02/2022 18:01

I mentioned it to one of the mum's at school and I know she was very ill in ICU with covid she is almost bald at the back of her head she said huge clumps were falling out I know I might sound selfish considering people have died but it's really digging up a lot of past anxiety for me , I'm not being dramatic I really think I suffered PTS after my eating disorder it ruined my teeth I was told I mightn't be able to have children it effected my eyesight all I wanted to do was but me again , which funnily enough I think caused the eating disorder I was bullied badly for having ginger hair and being overweight my whole life , the last ten years I've been a fitness freak was in great shape before I fell pregnant and was finally proud of my hair , maybe every dog has its day and u didn't appeicate when it was mines 💔

I'm also worried if my hair starts falling out I'll relaspse, I haven't yet but I am finding the post partumn weight very difficult to deal with I'm really fat now and the one thing apart from my children that's always stopped me from going down that road again when it's been so tempting is my hair ,

I'd suggest it's more likely because you've had a baby and it's perfectly natural. I'm sure I read that you don't shed hair whilst pregnant as much, therefore, the normal 100 or so hairs you loose each day come out all at once after, so probably looks more than it actually is. If you have very thick hair I wouldn't worry as I'm sure nobody else will notice. I myself lost hair post covid but it was 3-4 months after which is documented as a symptom. It's still coming out by the handful nearly two years later but nobody but me would notice as my hair always looked thick to everybody else. It isn't but it's coarse and a bit wiry so when I blow dry it stays put and looks thicker than it is. To reassure you if it is covid that has caused yours, I've never got bald patches just less hair than I had before but there is lots of new short hairs at the front so I presume it is coming back.

BlackSwan · 23/02/2022 13:49

I got a bald spot after the vaccine - my dermatologist thinks it's linked & I reported it under the yellow card system. So hair issues can strike from infection or prevention it seems. My scalp is still aching all over. I'm on antihistamines & steroids.

Bubbublish · 23/02/2022 19:24

I know you asked if anyone was NOT loosing hair but just wanted to give you a bit of hope.

I had a thread on here some time ago about hair loss.

I was in hospital with covid and pneumonia in August and about 3 months later my hair started falling out, there was so much. I was convinced I would end up bald. It was horrible and very upsetting. Apart from 1 bald patch my hair just became VERY thin. BUT a few months later it has stopped falling out as much and is starting to grow back, I have lots of very soft, fluffy bits poking through!!

I'm still under the long covid clinic and my consultant said it is fairly common but will grow back.

Don't give up hope

NotTerfNorCis · 23/02/2022 21:15

That sounds like telogen effluvium. Hair goes through 3 phases: growth, rest and falling out. If your body undergoes a shock, your hair goes into a rest phase, then when you recover it goes to the falling out phase, so you can have sudden massive hair loss. But then it returns to its usual cycle. I had this years ago after a crash diet.

DespairingHomeowner · 09/03/2022 21:20

Friend nearly died - this was around 6 months ago. No hair loss - try not to worry x

Clarabe1 · 09/03/2022 21:23

I have had Covid and no hair loss but I have had terrible shedding before. You should have seen me after I came off the pill and when I had sepsis. Worst case it grows back and body else notices even if it feels terrible to you. Don’t stress it will be fine!

The post pill tellogen effluvium happened to me too! It was terrible and I really freaked out. Thank God it stoped.
