If your child has a cough but no other symptoms, are you still doing a lft on them?

Yes as cough is one of the main 3 symptoms, so best to do a test.

If your child has a new continuous cough then they should be having a PCR, (not LFT) and staying at home till the results come in.

That's what I thought.

Dss arrived for half term with us with a cough, dp asked if he had had a covid test, and nope! (We tested him and it was negative)

I am really cross about it, but dp less so.

By the time you get the results the rules will have changed. Why not just do a lateral flow?

I should also have said that it seems bizarre to me that the priginal 3 symptoms are still what dictates a PCR test. Our whole family have had covid recently and none of us had a fever, cough or loss of taste/smell.
