Are orient gene tests reliable?

I tested clear positive on Flowflex yesterday. I'm astonished that my DCs are negative, particular DS who's been unwell (though I prob caught it at work). Because they used OG tests this morning I thought I'd try one myself - negative. I've tried both nose only and throat. I'm positive on the original LFT test too - the royal blue and white boxes. I won't test again, just wanting to make sure we protect the PILs.

Anyone had positive on orient gene LFT?

Yes ds has. I was beginning to think the OG ones didn’t work either as covid was all around us. Then ds had headache and temperature and bingo positive lateral flow.

Mymincepie · 16/02/2022 17:42

Yes they work really well

Owlfrog · 16/02/2022 17:50

I got my positive this morning on an Orient one. Was negative on the old style LFT done just before it, and I didn't swab my throat for the Orient one either.

BitterTits · 16/02/2022 17:57

It's so hit and miss isn't it? My OG throat one is now very faintly positive but the nasal one is negative.

Actually OG is now showing a very faint positive on the throat only swab. The nasal one is definitely negative.

Sorry the first one hadn't posted.

That’s interesting. I might try swabbing my throat as I now feel like crap but still negative.

JustDanceAddict · 17/02/2022 07:40

When dh had it I used
Orient genes
Flowflex
Nhs blue box ones
All negative.

WeAreTheHeroes · 17/02/2022 07:41

If you have symptoms you should get a PCR test.

BitterTits · 20/02/2022 19:56

I don't have the official symptoms - I've got a very thick head which is getting worse. I've been isolating since Tues night on the back of Flowflex clear positive. I did an day 5 tests today - Orient Gene was negative, the 'other' blue box was a faint positive still. I have a postal PCR but that only arrived yesterday.

DD consistently tests positive on OG but negative on PCRs.

DH meanwhile consistently tests positive on the original NHS nose/throat ones but negative on PCRs.

I've only tested positive on any LFT when I've actually had covid!

Make of all that what you will Grin

I has positive flowflex AND old style blue and white one in Friday. Did pcr Friday afternoon which has come back positive. Did an OG lft just out of interest yesterday (2 days after positive on other lfts and pcr) and still negative!

Dh says I must somehow be doing the OG one wrong

Don't tell me that, I've been trying ( so far unsuccessfully) to get the OG ones as DS has that problem with the Flowflex ones.
dementedpixie · 21/02/2022 14:10

My dh tested positive on Orient gene. He was the only one that was positive and that was reflected in the PCRs we took too.

BooksAndHooks · 21/02/2022 14:12

Yes my DS had much clearer positives on OG and less dye bleed than flowflex.

BitterTits · 22/02/2022 18:36

Mine and DH's PCRs arrived without swabs so I couldn't double check. Needn't bother now anyway, I suppose.

That’s typical!
