Faint positive LFT but negative PCR

Just that really...

I keep getting faint positive LFT. Today is the 4th day in a row of faint positives. I done a PCR yesterday and the results came back negative.

My partner and children all have point blank negative LFT. I am the only one getting faint positives and I have been doing 2 each day all of which have a very faint line. It can't be dodgy tests of everyone else has a completely negative LFT in our house. I am so confused. My test lines aren't getting any darker as the days progress.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks for all your advice!

Are they flowflex ones? There's been a few threads about continuous positives on these with negative PCRs

Thatsmoneyhoney · 13/02/2022 09:13

Yes the flowflex ones. Do you know if they have been false positives? I just don't know what to do..I am isolating but I don't want to if I don't have to??

Negative PCR is supposed to override the LFT result. Maybe call 119 and ask them what to do

lostoldname · 13/02/2022 09:20

A negative pcr does override.

dementedpixie · 13/02/2022 09:22

Do you have any other brand of LFT?

UpsilonPi · 13/02/2022 09:25

I thought the rules in England now that you isolate once you get a positive LFT. As soon as you report it on the government website, test and trace kicks in and you isolate. No need for a PCR.
It seems really unlikely to get that many false positives.

Kitkat151 · 13/02/2022 09:26

I would not isolate if I had a negative pcr

My son gets this on the flowflex ones ( not all the time but more than once, annoyingly often when he has a cold). I used to get a PCR for each time but now I have another brand of LFT just cross check them with those ( I would just use the other brand in the first place but he hates the throat ones).

dementedpixie · 13/02/2022 09:28

Search for false positive flowflex threads on mumsnet as there are quite a few others with the same issue. They are also reporting it on the yellow card scheme. Maybe do one more PCR then avoid flowflex tests if it comes back negative

You can do the nose/throat ones just on the nose too - just swab both nostrils (the instructions say this under testing a child). Orient gene are also nose only
treeflowercat · 13/02/2022 09:31

I've had two very faint negatives followed by a negative PCR. From the posts on here over the past few months, this doesn't seem uncommon.

Jules912 · 13/02/2022 10:39

I know I can just do the nose but he says those swabs are too tickly 🙈
I can't seem to get the Orient Gene ones anywhere.

Mindymomo · 13/02/2022 10:39

Have you registered your positive LFT. Because if you did when you got your negative PCR test result, the message sent would be that you don’t need to isolate as PCR overrides the LFT.

I have been testing positive on LFTs for months. Three different brands used.
Smashedavacado · 13/02/2022 11:07

Do you have any symptoms?
I have read that even a faint line within the correct time window should be seen as a positive.
I had very very faint line on Thursday and felt exhausted & headache - classic omnicrom apparently. Tested again this morning as feel absolutely fine & was half expecting it to be clear - it's now a much clearer line.
The PCR test I did on Thursday has still not come back which is also odd.
