Still positive day 9/10

So I know that technically you're free after 10 days and you no longer have to test. However, I am day 9 today and still strongly positive on an LFT.

Is it really safe to see my parents, for example, early next week?

I would personally.

Mindymomo · 10/02/2022 14:04

Depends if they are vulnerable or have medical conditions you may want to wait a few more days.

CafeCremeMerci · 10/02/2022 14:05

I wouldn't. Do you remember when we isolated for 14 days? (Shortened mire for economic that scientific reasons) You can pass it on for longer (think the longest has been about 23 days?). I wouldn't see them until I tested negative. But I expect most people would.

Northernsoullover · 10/02/2022 14:07

I like my parents so I wouldn't.

SpongeCake23 · 10/02/2022 14:09

I thought with Omicron it spread much faster and the incubation wasn’t as long as the others?

Grumblegard · 10/02/2022 14:18

Urgh, my instinct is to stay away too. We've got a 4 year old and a small baby and I was really looking forward to hitting them up for some free respite for a few days! But obviously I can't if it's a risk. Our isolation periods have been staggered so we've already been alone for more than two weeks Sad

@CafeCremeMerci Where did you get 23 days from?

It was ages ago, I think it was Chris Witty, it was when they were explaining why the isolation was 14 days as it covered when most people passed it on, but there were outliers at xx days. I think 23 was the longest known at the time.

Whathefisgoingon · 10/02/2022 18:07

@CafeCremeMerci Only thing o can find is from the CDC where they say severely immunocompromised mag be infection for 20 + days. Scary.

We are flying to visit my dad and will be 20 days post infection, I’m fairly confident he’ll be safe - if it was truly that long then things would look very different.

Relaxing2 · 11/02/2022 19:25

Are you negative Today op?

Grumblegard · 11/02/2022 21:15

I actually haven't tested again. I think I'm going to follow the existing advice from government and end my self isolation but not go nuts, eg I'll do things I need to do like go shopping with a mask on, but I'll LFT again before I see people in close quarters.

I think that's a reasonable compromise?

I spoke to a friend who is a scientist and they said the LFT looks for the presence of the Covid spike protein but it cannot distinguish between virus that can infect others and virus that can't. So... Confused
