Do we all have Omicron now?

I saw a paper a week or so ago showing that Delta only accounts for a very small amount of cases now, but I can’t find it.

I’m currently on day 4 and have just lost my sense of rate and smell. Apparently much less common with Omicron, but I’m assuming that’s what I’ve got?

Is Omicron dominant all over the globe now?

I think it's about 99% here but that was from reading something a couple of weeks ago.

ColettesEarrings · 09/02/2022 13:49

Yep, Sanger institute testing shows that 99.6% of cases are omicron now, spilt almost evenly across original omicron BA1 and omicron BA1.1, and with an emerging omicron BA2.

Incredible how it's shoved delta out!

So, does anyone know what this means in terms of delta infection? So I’ve got Omicron now, but if I travel somewhere with mainly Delta, I can just get re infected straight away?

I lost my sense of smell from days 9-13 or so (last week).

I believe there have been studies showing Omicron is likely to provide some protection against Delta, it was the other way round that was less likely to be the case which is why so many reinfections. There aren’t many places left with much Delta variant in circulation anyway.

I've been told by a Gp locally that they've been told there's still quite a bit of delta in the NE. This was confirmed by a friend who works the Covid wards.

She didn't give percentages though. All those who enter hospital are tested as given different treatments.

For those worrying about reinfection with Delta after Omicron, you can also get reinfected with Omicron again within a month anyway…

Loss of smell/taste is still possible with omicron, just less likely than with the other variants.

WarriorN · 09/02/2022 18:26

We've both lost taste with omicron.

Based on speed of transmission.

Covid ICU worker told me delta tends to leave you with breathlessness

WarriorN · 09/02/2022 18:28

Taste loss was toward the end and past the time within which to log on track and trace.

The Zoe app/study say 1 in 5 still experience affected taste or smell. It's ranked 17th in the most common symptoms but was top ten before Omicron became dominant. joinzoe.com/learn/omicron-symptoms?utm_source=covid-app&utm_medium=referral
