Post covid fatigue

Patienceandgrace · 07/02/2022 06:24

Is there anything I can do to get over this post Covid tiredness? Ive been taking a tonic for a week but still feel like Ive been hit by a bus after a 10 hour sleep.

When I actually had Covid I didnt have that many symptoms and went back to WFH after 3 days. Starting to regret that now.

It’s such a strange virus.

I thought I was getting better (day 18). By 11am I was absolutely shattered. Had to lie down, dizzy, lightheaded and felt worried I couldn’t manage to do the school run. It’s awful!!

WarriorN · 15/02/2022 06:44

How is everyone today?

I feel another layer of fatigue has lifted this morning. It's like you can feel each morning exactly how you'll be for the rest of the day. 3 weeks since positive test but I was signed off by Gp for another week.

Working I went down again around then. It's so frustrating. I hope you feel better soon.

I honestly feel the two weeks after the initial week were worse, and we were really quite poorly with fevers and weakness, afternoon exhaustion etc.

WarriorN · 15/02/2022 06:46

In fact it's been mid morning that the fatigue hits which is weird as that's usually when you have the most energy! Shall see how today goes.

WarriorN · 15/02/2022 06:48

I've been taking probiotics since Friday and eating lots of healthy stuff plus yogurt. No idea if helps but one nhs study seemed to indicate it can.

misskatamari · 15/02/2022 19:13

I'm glad I could help @Justalittlebitfurther and @dahliaaa I know Nicole's work can sound a bit woo woo at first, but it's all just brain science, and the emerging science in chronic pain and links with the nervous system and neuroplasticity, is just amazing. I'm basically out of chronic pain, after three years of it, thanks to this, so I'm hoping I can keep applying what I've learned and help with the fatigue.

So so tired today, this afternoon I had to down tools and close my eyes as it was just crushing fatigue (Not helped by my period being due I'm sure!)

@WarriorN thank you for the probiotics reminder, I've got some in the cupboard, I must take some. Also have kimchi and sauerkraut knocking about in the fridge, must eat them, as they're great for gut health etc.

I'm not sure if this will help or not, but supplement wise, I find magnesium a godsend too generally. It's helped me immensely with anxiety in the past, is great for aiding restful sleep, and is calming for the nervous system, so probably a big help with post covid stuff too. Some forms are rubbish (eg the big standard "magnesium" you get in the supermarket, as it's usually the oxide form which isn't very bioavailable), but magnesium glycinate and magnesium citrate are great, as very bioavailable (I get mine from Amazon)

dahliaaa · 15/02/2022 20:07

I'm at 6 weeks now. I had a couple of days where headaches felt like they were starting to improve but back to really painful again today Sad

HoneyFlowers · 16/02/2022 00:13

One month her and finally feeling much better. Hang in there guys.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 16/02/2022 09:23

Has anyone developed upper back pain? I've had lower before but this is right between my shoulder blades and only developed a few days after finishing my isolation. Every morning I wake up and my upper back feels like it's seized up.

WarriorN · 16/02/2022 14:25

Yes I did! And neck pain . Felt flu like aches at the weekend which would have been around day 19. Ok now. In fact, touching all wood, I'm feeling a lot brighter today.

Bizarre fucking bastard of a virus.

EllaPaella · 16/02/2022 19:32

I thought I would pop back and say day 15 for me and aside from an irritating cough I am
Completely back to normal. Sleeping well, no more fatigue so hopefully some of you will also start to feel better soon as well. I did have intense muscles stiffness in my buttocks and thighs day 10-13 but that's eased now as well.

Hedonism · 18/02/2022 22:27

Disappointingly my blood tests all came back normal. So maybe I am just exhausted.

CherryRipe1 · 18/02/2022 23:34

I have Sjogrens autoimmune and had Covid twice in two months plus the booster. My body has gone into a big flare and symptoms awful. Mostly comstose on the couch since NYE. Going to take some vitamins etc recommended on this thread.

Patienceandgrace · 19/02/2022 06:58

@CherryRipe1 was this Omicron you had twice in two months? Thats shocking Shock
I have a sore throat but thought I would have some immunity to covid for a while at least.

@Hedonism thanks for coming back with the update.

Glad some are feeling better and sorry to those who are still suffering.

Thanks for the tips @misskatamari

If you don't already, please take Vit D spray (not tablets - they don't absorb) I find D-Lux (mint flavoured) is the best make but there's another one that's weaker and orange flavoured. you must spray it against your cheek or under your tongue for it to be absorbed.

Also try taking plant-based iron as it doesn't have the constipating side effects of normal iron tablets. I use Floradix or Feroglobin capsules. If you feel very tired, their liquid iron is brilliant but more expensive and goes off if you don't use it within a set time.

Magnesium salt baths, like Epsom salts, help. You can buy the salts from Poundland - you don't have to go for the overpriced ones. You have to lie in the bath for at least 15 mins.

Yoga breathing techniques can help. Look them up on line.

Avoid processed sugar as it is inflammatory. Try to add some nuts and seeds to your diet, plenty of lean protein and as wide a mix of veg as you can. I do a salad with three different leaves, radishes, cucumber, fresh herbs and chopped nuts a few times a week now, as well as lots of steamed veg and veggie soup at lunch time.

For that stiffness - get one of those metre long hot water bottles. I wrapped mine around my hips and thighs when I got that deep bone axche and it really helped,
CherryRipe1 · 19/02/2022 12:37

@Patienceandgrace
Covid twice in 2 months. I had Delta early November which was horrible but not hospitalized, then the booster 2/12 but got Omicron 13/12 which was like a very bad cold & sore throat.

Patienceandgrace · 22/02/2022 19:49

How is everyone doing now?

I felt good at the weekend but so tired again today after a day at work.

All4Love · 23/02/2022 12:52

@Patienceandgrace

I've tested positive for my 2nd COVID infection.

I'm ok at the moment but starting to have palpitations again. Taking it easy and see what happens.

Hedonism · 23/02/2022 18:40

Feeling a bit better here (8 weeks post covid). I managed a decent 5k run today.

Having it twice is not fair @All4Love Sad

Wannabangbang · 27/02/2022 14:23

Day 7 here now testing negative but still bunged up and completely fatigued when will this end.

gingerhills · 27/02/2022 16:10

It's three weeks since I tested positive and yesterday was the first day I felt back to normal but went to bed very early. Woke up today feeling good too, so that's two days in a row. Even three days ago going to a fitness class wiped me out for the rest of the day.

BlueCookieMonster · 27/02/2022 16:27

I’m day 12 post covid PCR, I’m absolutely knackered. My lungs are all inflamed according the doctors, so been signed off of work for another week. I’ve had my jabs and my booster, feeling pretty pissed off to be honest.

The fatigue is unreal!

MyBookShelf · 27/02/2022 18:12

I'm on Day 22 and feel worse than when I was testing positive Sad
Days 0 - 3 - mild cold like symptoms, sore throat, headache, glands up
Day 4 - coughing started
Day 5 - 11 - mild tiredness
Day 12 - finally tested negative, but felt pretty tired so stayed off work
Day 14 - took some iron tonic, which didn't agree with my stomach = violent D&V!
Day 15 - started feeling REALLY tired, dizzy, light-headed but put to down to the D&V the day before, but its stayed ever since.
Day 16 - short walk- all 500 steps of it, then had to return to bed and sleep the rest of the day
Day 17 - today - unbelievably tired, dizzy and light-headed. Have to pace my days to get anything done, such as put a washing load on or drive to Sainburys, and then I sometimes do too much and the following day can do nothing. My back and hips ache from so much sitting and lying around and my calf muscles are throbbing today despite doing nothing.
I'm due back at work tomorrow, so worried I really won't cope.

ItsCanardBruv · 27/02/2022 18:46

Day 15 here. Just so tired and sleeping nearly 12 hours every night plus a daytime nap. Felt perky Friday morning and went around telling everyone I felt great again… was asleep on the couch by 1pm. Blush

For the probiotics, most shop sauerkraut/kimchi is pasteurised which means it doesn’t contain the stuff you need. But it’s simple to make, literally a cabbage, a handful of salt and a big mason jar. (Mary’s Nest has an easy “how to”).

WarriorN · 27/02/2022 19:09

For anyone still struggling I started to feel better in mid week 4, then had a period which blew me back for about a week.

I'm now at the end of week 5 and I feel almost 100%

I really did feel worse after the 10 days isolation for a good couple of weeks. I couldn't nap though due to kids or weird days where I was tired and wired. We both had awful insomnia. I'm perimenopausal too and feel symptoms worsened for a bit.
