Tested positive and haven’t had the vaccine

Harecaughtinheadlights · 06/02/2022 08:18

I tested positive this morning.

I didn’t have the vaccine because I was TTC and was worried about the side effects. I know it was silly. But I felt just way at the time.

Now I’m kicking myself as I’m positive and very anxious about being unvaccinated. I know most will say I brought it on myself, but I can’t help the panic 🙁

I’m 32, slightly overweight and female with no underlying health conditions that I know of.

I was unvaccinated and 17 weeks pregnant when I tested positive. I've had worse colds. My symptoms were a runny nose, sneezing and then loss of taste and smell. Just because you are unvaccinated, doesn't mean you won't have mild symptoms

TheNinjaWife · 06/02/2022 08:26

My Dd similar age to you, but a lot overweight (at the time) caught it December 2020 before she was vaccinated. Only got tested because I nagged her. Her symptoms were so mild she didn’t even think she had a cold. She thought she was just run down. Try not to worry.

Harecaughtinheadlights · 06/02/2022 08:26

I had a fever overnight and now I’ve got horrendous back pain and a cough. Also sinus pain.

TigerLilyTail · 06/02/2022 08:29

No one can say for sure how badly you'll get it, but most people don't get it too badly.

Do you have a pulse oximeter?

DayKay · 06/02/2022 08:30

Try not to worry about it and just do the things people normally recommend for flu. Rest, paracetamol, hot lemon and honey, soup. Maybe take vitamin d if you don’t already. Should all help your immune systems to fight it off.

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 06/02/2022 08:33

Yes, omicron is very sinusy. I had it at Christmas and they are still a bit weird now.

Sorry you are positive. The chances are that, because you're young, you will be ok, but you may be in for a few days of feeling pretty rough.

Best of luck Flowers

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 06/02/2022 08:35

I think it's really bad that people who have made their own decision have been made to feel they have " brought it on themselves " please get out of that mind set .
You've caught a virus that is rife around the whole world , nothing you have done wrong .
I doubt very much you'll suffer fatal consequences.
I'd had 2 jabs when I caught it and I still felt really rough so don't beat yourself up . Get well soon OP Flowers

Waxonwaxoff0 · 06/02/2022 08:40

Lots of people caught it before vaccines were available. My mum caught it early on as she works in a hospital, she did feel rough and took about 3 weeks to fully recover but she's 20 years older than you. Try not to panic.

Harecaughtinheadlights · 06/02/2022 08:43

Did anyone else have nausea? I’ve got that now but I also feel like eating, it’s weird.

OP posts:
bumblefeline · 06/02/2022 08:48

Hope you get well soon. Lots of people including me got it before vaccines and are ok. My BMI is over 40 and it was mild for me.

Yes nausea can be a symptom.

niceupthedanceagain · 06/02/2022 08:48

Yes I felt sick (only had one vax and it had worn off ages ago). I lost 11bs through having no appetite so it wasn't all bad!
I didn't have any cold symptoms but I was totally fine and better after 10 days.

OvertheRainbow2U · 06/02/2022 09:00

My 23 year old unvaccinated son had it a few weeks back. Overweight and very unhealthy lifestyle. Couple of days of cold/cough/sinus issues including thumping headache, loss of appetite and weak.

Hopefully it'll just be a couple of days of it for you too - get well soon!

PriamFarrl · 06/02/2022 09:02

I had it before I could be vaccinated.
I’m over weight and 45. I was quite ill but I never needed anything more than paracetamol and sleep. I was fully recovered in a couple of weeks.
That was a year ago when the variants were ‘nastier’. I’ve since been able to be vaccinated.
I’ve just had Omicron and was fine.

nojudgementhere · 06/02/2022 09:11

I know a few people who had Covid well before vaccines and were quite poorly but made good recoveries. A couple were in their fifties and quite overweight but got through it fine.

Sending 💐to you. Take care, get lots of rest and don't beat yourself up about the decision you made. Nobody can be sure of what the right/wrong answer is - you just have to go with what you feel is best for you at the time.

ThingThatIBring · 06/02/2022 09:21

OP, your decision was perfectly reasonable, especially as you're so young - you did NOT "bring this on yourself"!!

You'll be fine. The risk from this to someone like you is lower than risks we take every day and don't even think about. Rest up and don't worry x

Harecaughtinheadlights · 06/02/2022 09:26

Getting rest is unlikely as I have a 3 year old Sad

CakesOfVersailles · 06/02/2022 09:31

Well it is too late to be thinking about the vaccine now.

If you are overweight are you eligible for Paxlovid?

Do you have any other adults in your house who can help out?

Hope you feel better soon. Most people are ok even unvaccinated. If you do feel like you are getting worse, don't be put off seeking help, even if it's just calling your GP or 111.

TheViewFromTheCheapSeats · 06/02/2022 09:49

I’m unvaccinated. I had 2-3 days of upset stomach and back pain. One day of more aches, and tiredness for about 4 days.
No sinus issues, I mainly just felt like I’d been beaten up

Harecaughtinheadlights · 06/02/2022 09:57

@TheViewFromTheCheapSeats did you have a fever? I’ve had a fever overnight and I’ve got a cough too.

OP posts:
TheViewFromTheCheapSeats · 06/02/2022 09:59

I had a mild fever at night, it stopped, then a fever the next night. Then it went

Harecaughtinheadlights · 06/02/2022 10:12

I’m trying to keep up with supplements, I’m taking vitamin D, vitamin C, and my usual multivitamin.
Doing steam inhalation with eucalyptus oil. Is there anything else I could do? I’m drinking plenty of fluids too.

There is little point in panicking as hard as it is or asking how other people have been affected as we all know this varies so much. There are two variants that are predominant at the moment Delta and Omicron so this also effects the experience people have.
Taking your age into account you are probably unlikely to suffer serious effects so the best thing you can do is look after yourself as best you can and seek immediate medical help if you are unsure

Harecaughtinheadlights · 06/02/2022 10:22

What sort of things should I be looking out for as a red flag that I need to contact someone?

OP posts:
rosie1959 · 06/02/2022 10:29

You know best how you feel we have just had Covid whip through our family but no one had more than cold like symptoms or no symptoms at all so no need to ask for medical help (but all adults fully vaccinated)
Extreme shortness of breath for me would be a red flag

CakesOfVersailles · 06/02/2022 10:40

@Harecaughtinheadlights

What sort of things should I be looking out for as a red flag that I need to contact someone?
If you experience:

-signifiant weakness
-inability to care for yourself of your child
-feeling gradually more unwell or more breathless
-difficulty breathing when you stand up or move around
-shaking
-no appetite

then you should call 111 or your GP

If you experience:

-breathless to the point you can't comfortably say a sentence
-shutdown of kidney function (you stop peeing)
-or you start peeing a lot
-a rapid deterioration in your breathing
-pale or blotchy skin while feeling cold or sweating
-a rash that looks like small bruises or bleeding under the skin and does not fade when you roll a glass over it
-fainting or collapse
-agitation or confusion
-coughing up blood

call 999 or go the hospital
