Going back to the gym

countrylady2 · 05/02/2022 09:37

I rejoined the gym in Sep 21 and went till Jan 22. I am just getting over Omicron, I didn't catch it from the gym. I don't know why I am paranoid about going back to the gym when I didn't get ill from going there. Some people were not sanitising the gym equipment but most were. Anyone else still going to the gym and feels safe?

I’ve gone the whole time it’s been open.
I sanitise before and after I use the equipment, just in case.
And I’ve not had Covid.

I've gone to the gym consistently apart from lockdowns. I sanitise everything and everyone else seems to be doing the same

ClaudiaWankleman · 05/02/2022 09:47

Covid isn't transmitted via surface contamination, but if you're worried why don't you sanitise the equipment?

The health benefits of exercising regularly outweigh any potential Covid risk, for me. If you have just had Omicron then you'll likely be naturally immune for a while yet. Don't worry yourself.

Also been going to the gym except for lockdowns - also clean equipment before and after as I like it to be kept as clean as possible.

Do not think cleaning matter much for an airborne virus.

Also caught Omicron still not negative yet - caught it at my fathers funeral.

I was back in the gym first day it reopened (both times). Have never felt unsafe and the benefits of me keeping myself fit and strong have always far outweighed any risk of covid.

Mind mine is a smaller, local gym. They did operate a booking system for busy times, but I tend to go either early morning or during school times. Everyone seems to have got nicely in to the habit of wiping equipment down, occasionally someone doesn't, but seeing as I've been in various stages of tattoo healing over the last 6months I've been wiping benches etc down before I use them anyway.
Social distancing has most definitely reduced over the last 6months, not that that bothers me, I'm an unsociable, autistic cow that social distanced before social distancing was fashionable and almost everyone in the gym knows me and knows I don't do hugs, air kisses etc

I'm going everywhere and feeling safe. Why is the gym more dangerous than anywhere else?

Dentistsinthefreemarket · 05/02/2022 10:18

God I've been back at the gym for months, no social distancing and a bit of sanitising goes on but thankfully back to normal. Don't fear it at all and I've not had COVID yet

I'm recovering from Covid atm, and I'll go back to the gym as soon as I'm well enough to. The health benefits of regular exercise and activity far far outweigh the risk from Covid imo. I've tried exercising at home and it just doesn't work for me, I slack or skip the workout and there's no point really. Group classes are what really motivates me to exercise at an effective level, so without them In at significantly increased risk of heart disease, diabetes, frailty, and a whole host of lifestyle related health problems. All of which would make me more susceptible to severe illness caused by Covid and a whole host of other infectious diseases such as flu. So I'll be going back to the gym, definitely.

I've been going any time they've been open. The way I saw it, getting covid at some point was an inevitability and I'd be better at fighting it off if I was physically fit.

I’ve just got over omicron and am back at the gym. There are so many ways to get covid, some near unavoidable (from my kids who are at primary school was my reason) some bad for you (boozing in the pub) and some, like the gym very good for you in every other way apart from some transmission risk! And I have to say, following Covid I’m actually more laid back about going there, as I’m had my omicron booster…
