Breathless and mucousy chest on day 11 - How do we treat these things at home?

Both double vaccinated. Got covid last Monday, I then had a csection and we have a newborn on a 3 hourly feeding regime for weightloss and jaundice, have been back and forth to the hospital etc so really lacking opportunities to rest.

My DH especially is suffering, but both of us have awful breathlessness and heavy chests. We will be fine walking generally (like on the hospital grounds, school run - we are out of the isolation period now), then get these awful bouts of breathlessness and coughing when doing simple things like getting up to go to the bathroom or make a cup of tea! It debilitates us and we literally have to stop and stand there catching our breath. Mucous just sits in our chests and is constantly flowing in our noses and throats.

How are we to treat these things at home? Anyone have any miracle remedies to help relieve the symptoms?

Try one of the following:

-steam (hot shower and let the bathroom steam up). Fill the basin with hot water then add menthol crystals.

  • Google Queens college breathing exercises (help cough stuff up)
  • plenty to drink, being hydrated helps loosen up any mucus you may have (despite the breathlessness you may have very little down there w covid).
  • inhaling iodine and salt vapour. This one is a bit more "out there" - I tried it in desperation. Google salt pipes.
