Would you go to a gym class if there is covid in your household?

Random question I know but I need someone else to make the decision for me. I have an exercise class this evening that I go to every week and had already been paid for. I’m triple jabbed and LFT negative. However Ds2 has had covid this week (tested + on Sunday, although negative today) and dd has also tested positive yesterday (she is rather poorly despite being double jabbed and having had covid 13 months ago). I usually do this class with dd, she has already cancelled her place but if I went I would probably have to explain her absence and although I do not have to isolate and am free to continue as per the gov guidance, I don’t want the instructor and other participants to judge me negatively.
So this is a more of how would you feel if you knew a member of your exercise class had a covid positive member of their household? Would you think they are irresponsible for attending or would you just accept that this is life now and we just have to get on with it.

YABU - do not go
YANBU - go and enjoy

No I wouldn't go but I know a lot of people would as technically you're allowed to.

We've got Covid in our household at the moment and from when DP tested positive I cancelled a lot of things as I knew it was only a matter of time, and sure enough I tested positive a week after him.

Awakened22 · 03/02/2022 12:45

No, it just seems unnecessary. Some of it will depend on if it’s inside or outside, the amount of ventilation, the space between people and whether there’s also anyone vulnerable there.

TrufflesAndToast · 03/02/2022 12:46

You’re technically allowed but it’s a selfish and unpleasant thing to do. Exercising is a high risk environment with huffing and puffing in close quarters. You’d have to be a certain type of person to put your exercise class above other peoples health and potentially a couple of weeks of inconvenience and financial loss for them. It’s depressing that the govt apparently has to keep draconian rules in place because people can’t be trusted to behave with basic common sense and consideration of others. I currently have covid and the idea of my husband (negative) cheerfully going off to a gym class with others is ludicrous. Write off your fiver and think of other people!

Sunshinedreaming2022 · 03/02/2022 12:46

See my dh tested positive just after Christmas and none of us caught it off him then, and in between then and now I’ve had my booster, so I’m not sure I will catch it

I'd just go.

LizzieMacQueen · 03/02/2022 12:59

No, not a gym class where u may be breathing harder and probably in an unventilated space. No I wouldn't.

GunsNShips · 03/02/2022 13:07

I would. You don’t have covid and it’s not a sure thing that you will get it. And even if you eventually get it could miss this week and then next week if they are still isolating and then have to miss another two weeks for you isolating.

lookforthesun · 03/02/2022 13:09

Yes I would. You don't have it.

If someone in my house had a cold, or the vomiting bug, or another illness I'd go if it wasn't me with the illness. Life has to return to normal.

shoofly · 03/02/2022 13:14

I wouldn't and I'd hope other people wouldn't but people are selfish it seems.
I do realise that people will have to do essential stuff like go to work and go get groceries, but in an exercise class inside, it seems like you don't care if you pass it on

TrufflesAndToast · 03/02/2022 13:20

I’m all for returning to normal - it’s normal to me to limit contact with others if I likely have a very contagious bug Confused Pre-covid I wouldn’t have gone to see family and friends if someone in our house had a sickness bug for example. Normal doesn’t mean being a selfish and inconsiderate twat (to me, anyway!)

Crazyforcavies · 03/02/2022 13:22

No, absolutely not

Paquerette · 03/02/2022 13:22

YABU

I wouldn’t go. My DS tested positive a couple of days ago, and yesterday I cancelled an appointment that I could have technically gone to (tested negative), but I felt like it would be a shitty thing to do. A few hours later I started feeling awful with a sore throat too, which were my DS’s initial symptoms. I got a very faint grey line on my test this morning so it looks like I will test positive tomorrow. I’m also triple jabbed.

You mentioned that your double jabbed daughter is really poorly. Why would you want to risk making others really poorly too?

Peachandpearl · 03/02/2022 13:25

Yes. I'm double vaxxed, boosted, if I can go to work, DC can go to school, be in close proximity to people and mask wearing has gone, then why would I make an exception for leisure activities?

I'm not sure how I feel about any of it, but that's the rules that we are living our life by now. If we have to do the slog then we need the pleasure too. There has to be some kind of upside to all that risk

Disgruntledpelicanlady · 03/02/2022 13:27

I would. But then again I've had several close contacts at work since Christmas where social distancing is literally impossible and I've gone on as normal with daily lfts. If I didn't go out after each contact I would have been housebound.

Wartywart · 03/02/2022 13:31

I wouldn't go either - high risk of transfer with heavy breathing.

For info @Paquerette, your 'faint grey line' is a positive. Any line in the T position is positive - it doesn't need to be bright red.

itwasntaparty · 03/02/2022 13:31

No, I wouldn't but I understand it's technically allowed. Just wouldn't sit right with me. Sweaty breathing and sharing equipment is just elevated risk, my gym is a studio run by two, if they go down and have to isolate their business is screwed so I wouldnt want to be responsible for that.

BeenToldComputerSaysNo · 03/02/2022 13:33

Technically it's allowed, but I wouldn't.

TrufflesAndToast · 03/02/2022 13:35

Gosh, let me think. Perhaps because a gym class is somewhat less important than school and work?! I despair.

PickAChew · 03/02/2022 13:35

I wouldn't. As a contact, you're advised to try to minimise contact with others. I have a house full of covid, at the moment, too, and getting sweaty and out of breath in a room with other people is not something I would want to do.

Muddywellies10 · 03/02/2022 13:36

YABU. I'm double jabbed, boosted and currently positive having picked it up 4 days later from my primary aged son. Omicron is incredibly transmissible within households and you could easily be incubating.

Dh has has his booster but still has covid.
Peachandpearl · 03/02/2022 13:40

Is it really so much less important than school and work to meet your exercise and social needs? Do an LFT test, check your temperature, pull on your gym gear. The rules don't make much sense, I agree. It's a shambles. But loneliness and obesity are killers too. Covid is not the only thing there is.

Yuckypretty · 03/02/2022 13:43

I think you should go. Otherwise what's the point in doing an LFT?

DynamiteFilledRadish · 03/02/2022 13:55

Yes, I would totally go.
