Would you go to a gym class if there is covid in your household?

Random question I know but I need someone else to make the decision for me. I have an exercise class this evening that I go to every week and had already been paid for. I’m triple jabbed and LFT negative. However Ds2 has had covid this week (tested + on Sunday, although negative today) and dd has also tested positive yesterday (she is rather poorly despite being double jabbed and having had covid 13 months ago). I usually do this class with dd, she has already cancelled her place but if I went I would probably have to explain her absence and although I do not have to isolate and am free to continue as per the gov guidance, I don’t want the instructor and other participants to judge me negatively.
So this is a more of how would you feel if you knew a member of your exercise class had a covid positive member of their household? Would you think they are irresponsible for attending or would you just accept that this is life now and we just have to get on with it.

YABU - do not go
YANBU - go and enjoy

I wouldn't. But one of the members of my class in her 70s. It wouldn't hurt to miss one.

vickyc90 · 03/02/2022 15:45

I would go this is life now, we didn't stay home when DS had chicken pox or the husband had flu

cloudjumper · 03/02/2022 15:47

I would, and I did.

Blubells · 03/02/2022 15:49

What's the point of testing if you still have to isolate when you're negative Confused?

I never caught covid from my two teens. I'm triple jabbed and seem to have a good immune system. And I do go to the gym regularly!

RonMaelDancing · 03/02/2022 16:19

Nobody's talking about "isolating" when you're negative... we're talking about limiting unnecessary social contacts for a short while when there's a fair risk you are incubating covid.

Peachandpearl · 03/02/2022 16:56

Problem is, lots of people are at fairly high risk of incubating covid all the time. Do you expect carers, nurses, doctors, teachers etc all to avoid all 'unnecessary' socialising and hobbies (especially considering the past lockdowns show that many people think all socialising and hobbies outside the home are unnecessary).

A man cannot live on bread alone. We need the social world

Catmemes · 03/02/2022 16:58

Yes I would, let's face it, lots of people replying here wouldn't go to a gym class in ANY circumstances. 😄

HoliHormonalTigerlilly · 03/02/2022 16:58

Wow.

CovidCorvid · 03/02/2022 16:59

Yes I would

megletthesecond · 03/02/2022 16:59

No.
I was due to return to the gym last week. And DS got covid so I cancelled all my classes.

Glitterbells · 03/02/2022 17:04

Id probably take the excuse not to bother as I’m so lazy.
It wouldn’t bother me if you went however and I was in the class.
I’m at work all day with people who have family members tested positive. My dc are at school all day with other dc who have family members who are positive.
People with positive family members are at the shops, cinemas, bars, theatres.
And if they have to go to work and not isolate why shouldn’t they be able to do social things too.
I don’t really see what difference it makes now.

Jaxhog · 03/02/2022 17:09

YABU!!

It's the worst environment for passing on any bug, but especially the Omicron variant, as everyone will be breathing heavily.

RonMaelDancing · 03/02/2022 17:14

"Problem is, lots of people are at fairly high risk of incubating covid all the time. Do you expect carers, nurses, doctors, teachers etc all to avoid all 'unnecessary' socialising and hobbies"

no, not at all. I can't see any post on here where people have suggested that or where that could be implied.
I just expect people to follow the advice to limit close contact for a very short space of time - a few days - when they are living in a household with someone who currently has covid.

TyrannosaurusRegina · 03/02/2022 17:29

Of course I wouldn't, its pretty selfish, I'm surprised you need that pointed out.

becca3210 · 03/02/2022 17:32

I made this exact decision last night and didn't go to an exercise class. My husband was positive I was negative. This morning I'm positive so glad I made that decision!

Trolleedollee · 03/02/2022 17:36

Yes absolutely I would.

EATmum · 03/02/2022 17:43

I'm in this position with now 3 other members of my household positive (so it just feels like a matter of time). I will go to Tesco but not to the gym or classes because the environment is completely different - breathing with exertion, no masks etc. It's annoying, but that's Covid for you. And I can still go for a run outside, until it gets me!

Blubells · 03/02/2022 17:54

until it gets me!

If you're triple jabbed it may not!

Whattochoosenow · 03/02/2022 17:57

You’re allowed to go, so yes I would

welshpolarbear · 03/02/2022 17:59

Absolutely not, but that's me, I wouldn't want to risk spreading it to anyone.

AnnieLobeseder · 03/02/2022 18:00

I've just missed two weeks of gym as my kids had COVID. I went out solo on my bike or went for a run instead. It seemed very selfish to potentially spread the virus if I could avoid it. It's just a couple of classes, no big deal to miss.

HMBB · 03/02/2022 18:13

No I wouldn't go.

Cornettoninja · 03/02/2022 18:17

While there’s still a requirement for isolation if infected I would miss out a week or two with a positive case in the house.

Lots of people wouldn’t though so it makes zero difference in reality.

DillDanding · 03/02/2022 18:21

I’d go, yes. In fact I did this last week. My son tested weakly positive and entirely asymptomatic (not sure why he did a test, but anyway…).

The rest of us continued as normal having all tested negative.

Fastforwardtospring · 03/02/2022 18:25

Nope just cancelled classes for Sat as DD is positive.
