Would you go to a gym class if there is covid in your household?

Random question I know but I need someone else to make the decision for me. I have an exercise class this evening that I go to every week and had already been paid for. I’m triple jabbed and LFT negative. However Ds2 has had covid this week (tested + on Sunday, although negative today) and dd has also tested positive yesterday (she is rather poorly despite being double jabbed and having had covid 13 months ago). I usually do this class with dd, she has already cancelled her place but if I went I would probably have to explain her absence and although I do not have to isolate and am free to continue as per the gov guidance, I don’t want the instructor and other participants to judge me negatively.
So this is a more of how would you feel if you knew a member of your exercise class had a covid positive member of their household? Would you think they are irresponsible for attending or would you just accept that this is life now and we just have to get on with it.

YABU - do not go
YANBU - go and enjoy

No. I know it's technically allowed, but if there was covid in the house I'd limit my contact to strictly necessary things.

Littlehouseonthefairy · 03/02/2022 18:29

Ynbu.
Go, people trying to get others to stay at home because somebody else is infected with something that most people need to have taken a test to even know there is anything wrong with them! It's getting ridiculous. It is everywhere now. Everyone in the class will have been in close contact with someone who has it.

Rosesarere · 03/02/2022 18:32

My dd has covid and I have been attending my daily gym classes, there is no restrictions against this and it eill be the only time I get go be out of the house until she is safe to go back to school

Chronicallymothering · 03/02/2022 18:36

No. I wouldn’t.

Fizzbo · 03/02/2022 19:00

I’d go. I can see no reason why you shouldn’t.

hopsalong · 03/02/2022 19:02

No, I wouldn't go. I've been pretty anti-lockdown and anti-silly-rules about park benches etc from the start, but I wouldn't go into a hot and sweaty crowded space knowing that I had a higher than average risk of being contagious.

Before the pandemic I wouldn't have gone if I felt a bit ill, being of the opinion that it's very selfish to go to gyms, hairdressers appointments etc while possibly contagious. It always annoys me when someone at the gym is wiping and blowing their nose in a coldy way. Now I think that idea's got extended a bit, as we realize just how easily many mild viruses spread. So I avoided the gym this week because my children have both been off school with non-Covid hacking coughs. Before 2020 I would have gone without thinking twice.

I decided not to even DD had covid in December.

Blubells · 03/02/2022 19:17

Go, people trying to get others to stay at home because somebody else is infected with something that most people need to have taken a test to even know there is anything wrong with them!

Exactly. Omicron is literally everywhere and most of us don't even know we have it!

TellySavalashairbrush · 03/02/2022 19:24

No. It usually takes a few days to test positive after being in contact with an infected person . One thing is popping out for necessary supplies wearing a mask, another thing is panting openly in a humid place like a gym . That’s just selfish

Katie517 · 03/02/2022 21:53

I would 100% go, if we are scrapping isolation for positive cases in March there is no way household contacts who are negative should be called selfish for going on as normal! Anyone in a gym at the moment knows there is a risk they will get covid, it’s not like you are wandering round a hospital people have made a choice to be there and know the risks and come March will be working out alongside people who actually have covid.

MsMartini · 03/02/2022 21:57

Probably too late now but this is what the guiudance actually says (gor household contacts who are exempt from SI because of vaccination status):

"If your daily LFD test result is negative, it is likely that you were not infectious at the time the test was taken. To further reduce the chance of passing COVID-19 on to others, you are strongly advised to:
-limit close contact with other people outside your household, especially in crowded, enclosed or poorly ventilated spaces
-work from home if you are able to
-wear a face covering in crowded, enclosed or poorly ventilated spaces and where you are in close contact with other people
-limit contact with anyone who is at higher risk of severe illness if infected with COVID-19.
That is the guidance for now. Yes it will change but that is what we are being asked to do right now.

Skip a week.

As an instructor honestly, it’s wrecking havoc on our business as it is

Wizzbangfizz · 03/02/2022 22:49

Yes

milkyaqua · 03/02/2022 23:12

A gym. Unventilated. Crowded. Panting. A highly transmissible variant.

I think you should skip that class.

PickAChew · 03/02/2022 23:25

@Yuckypretty

I think you should go. Otherwise what's the point in doing an LFT?
So you can have some reassurance that it might be safe to shop for food, see a healthcare professional, go to school or work in an area that is struggling for well staff.

There are other ways to grab some exercise or social contact for the week or two that you're at higher risk of being infectious.

PickAChew · 03/02/2022 23:31

@Blubells

AND your triple jabbed! You probably won't even catch it.
Once again, triple jabbed DH has it. He has been as ill as unjabbed teen DS.
PinotPony · 03/02/2022 23:34

No, I wouldn't. When my DS had covid, I avoided as much social contact as possible with others.

A negative LFT is no guarantee. I caught covid last year from a friend who tested negative whilst her child had covid. She tested negative on Saturday morning, we had lunch with other friends on Saturday afternoon, by Monday all of us had caught it.

RobertSmithsLipstick · 03/02/2022 23:35

No, I wouldn't go.
It's only about a week.

Siameasy · 04/02/2022 09:43

Yes. DD has Covid I still have to go to work and am going about my life as normal when DH is off and I actually CAN go out!
