Should/could I get a PCR?

DD tested positive on lat flow last week. Had temp. Still testing positive on day 6 but absolutely fine. DH tested positive today on lateral flow. Has been feeling off since Sunday but daily lat flows clear until today.

DS and I still testing negative. I feel a bit rough today though - achy, dry throat, slightly tight chest. DS is snotty but to be fair he’s 2 and always snotty.

I was wondering whether we should both go for a PCR? My thinking is if we have it the PCR might pick it up more quickly than lat flows (which we’re taking daily)? I’m not sure if that assumption is in any way true!

But neither of us have the 3 classic covid symptoms which would warrant a PCR re the official rules. Indeed rules are that we can go and do whatever we want as long as we clear lateral flows - and that’s only advice which gov says doesn’t apply to my DS as he’s under 5 (doing them anyway though).

WWYD? Get a PCR or just keep taking daily lateral flows. Think DS and I will keep a low profile anyway ie avoid his usual classes even though we could still go, as per gov rules and advice.

I’d PCR. The Gov. site is still sticking to the same 3 symptoms but Omicron has lots of different symptoms.

So I’d basically have to lie about our symptoms to get a PCR, even though our symptoms, plus the fact we live with two infected people, mean that we may well have covid? The system is a bit nuts, isn’t it?

Yeah you lie and get the pcr. It's not our fault the government didn't update the symptoms Smile

School have told us to get a pcr for cold symptoms. Nobody even asks when you go for pcr really anyway.

Millions have had to lie to get a PCR test done, as they’ve not updated the symptoms. There used to be a tick option if you are a close contact, have they taken take away. Rules are if you have symptoms and negative on LFT when book a PCR, albeit you have to tick one of the 3 symptoms listed.
