Does my DS need a PCR so there's an official record of his positive?

DS is 12, double vaxxed, and tested positive on a LFT today.
There is a small chance of us going to Spain in half term (13th Feb).
I've booked a PCR for him alongside the one I need to take for my work. I've booked one for him specifically so if he then tests positive in two weeks time, we can officially prove that he's recovered from a recent infection.
But, would just logging the LFT result do the same job?

Yes, you should log the positive LFT online and get a code. It won’t hurt if you are going to Spain, but I think at the moment the Spanish are more concerned that everyone is double jabbed within 270 days.
