Covid - how long until LF negative

My DH tested positive on lateral flow last Tuesday. I was doing daily lateral flows which was positive on Friday. We are both fully vaccinated and have been mildly unwell, mainly sore throat and fatigue.

Unfortunately DH still strongly positive on lateral flow so no prospect yet of an early release. Children are negative but sure what we will do about school tomorrow- will let school know in the morning.

I was wondering about anyone with recent covid who were doing daily lateral flows - when did you test negative?

I was still testing positive on day 9

MoonriseKingdom · 30/01/2022 18:41

Oh dear! Sounds like we won’t be back at work this week then. The whole test on day 5/6 thing had got my hopes up of early release

Day 10 was positive but I stopped testing then. My son was the same.

TheCatsPjammas · 30/01/2022 20:35

Son tested positive until day 19 ( boosted!) ..the whole day 5 release just gives people false hope that they will get out quickly. Can’t imagine it applies to very many people.

TheCatsPjammas · 30/01/2022 20:35

Day 10!

bonetiredwithtwins · 30/01/2022 20:36

5 year old took 10 days
1 year old twins 8 days
Me - 9 days

WreckTangled · 30/01/2022 20:36

Day 15 for me. Wasn't allowed back to work until then (NHS).

QforCucumber · 30/01/2022 20:37

I got a negative yesterday and today, days 8 and 9. Anecdotally between friends we’ve found those with no symptoms clearer sooner than those with symptoms 🤷🏻‍♀️

megletthesecond · 30/01/2022 20:38

15yr old DS had a faint line today on day 8.

Dd had covid twice in a month.

First time she had no symptoms - she caught it off me and dp - was still positive at the end of the 10 day isolation.

More recently she had it again with mild symptoms - was negative by day 5.

I had it in December - I had symptoms throughout and was negative by day 8.

LifesTooShortYOLO · 30/01/2022 20:41

My DS is the same timeline as your DH tested positive on Tuesday an instant strong line.
Got my hopes up today would be a negative but if anything it's even brighter than day 1!
Now I don't know if I'm going to bother testing tomorrow because I cannot see how it can go from strong positive today to a faint line or no line tomorrow?! Any one had such experience?

cheercaptain · 30/01/2022 20:47

Day 12 for me and Day 8 for DD.

AlexandraEiffel · 30/01/2022 20:48

Me 6, 1 child 5, other child still pos on 5

Opihr · 30/01/2022 20:53

We've had 60 odd cases at our school since Xmas. Very few have got out of isolation earlier and the vast majority have had to do 10 days.

Probably not what you wanted to hear....

NameChangesforNoman · 30/01/2022 20:57

My 9yr old was only positive for 4 days, 7 year old was 6.,

Why still test after day 10? You don’t need to do that.

Same in my school! I’m on day 7, still positive so won’t be in school until Wednesday now.

My DHs test today was positive much more rapidly today than the first day we tested.

What I find weird is a colleague had it in last few weeks and has been much more unwell than me with cough and breathlessness. But she was only ever positive on a pcr, her lateral flows were always negative.

I had symptoms and have never had a positive LFT, it was confirmed by PCR. DS had positive LFT, then had a day unwell and had negative LFT on days 8 and 9. DD had no symptoms (testing because DS had Covid), had negative LFT today and will be back in school if she has a negative LFT tomorrow morning.

Mine went from pretty strong positive (day 5) to negative (day 6). It didn't gradually fade. I wasn't convinced it was real so did an evening one too. So I had 3 in a row negative. From very positive to very negative. Not even a squinty line in 24 hours. So don't give up.
altmember · 31/01/2022 03:06

Child 1 - day 5 (near enough asymptomatic)
Child 2 - day 11 (nausea for 3 days)
Child 3 - day 11 (asymptomatic)
Myself - day 12 (rough as a badgers arse)

I actually had faint lines on day 5 and 6, and one negative on day 7. Then went positive again from day 8 to 11 (along with symptoms resurfacing).

Suspect child 1 caught it first and gave it to the other two, who then have it to me a week later. So she probably had it a couple of days earlier than her day 0. She felt a bit off 48 hours earlier but tested negative (suspect falsely) at that point.

Stepson tested negative on his day 6, and pretty confident his day zero is accurate.

To update my own thread. It’s day 5 for me and day 8 for DH and we’re both very weakly positive today and feeling much better. Hoping mine will be negative tomorrow and Friday so I get early parole Grin
