COVID again soon after having it?

Has anyone or their child had COVID relatively soon after having previously? Dd had COVID in early December. It’s now exploded at school this week (her teacher and about 1/3 of the class currently positive). She is complaining of a tummy ache and headache. I know I can’t PCR test her so soon, but wondering how likely it would be for her to get it again so soon? She is 8 and obviously not vaccinated.

I think there are cases of reinvention after 5 or 6 weeks, so it could well be. Hope she isn't feeling too poorly.

Stickytreacle · 30/01/2022 11:17

Reinfention not invention!

Nevermindful · 30/01/2022 11:17

Yep, I know kids who got it in December and got it again recently, presumably they had Delta variant the first time and Omicron variant this. Sucks. The rules are you can do a PCR if there are new symptoms. You could also do an LFT given it’s not the official symptoms.

Dilbertian · 30/01/2022 11:19

Yup. Me. Two separate infections 6 weeks apart. Had clear PCR and LFTs between them. Very different symptoms, so I suspect 1st was Delta and 2nd was Omicron.

Just do a lateral flow test.
Mine had it in mid-November and now have it again…

ExtremeSymptoms · 30/01/2022 11:24

This is the second time in 7 weeks I've had it.

One girl in DDs class had it end of November, then again over Christmas and her mums worried she's got it again as she has all the same symptoms.

mindutopia · 30/01/2022 11:29

Ah bugger, that’s really annoying! Her best friend’s mum (who she also sits next to in class) just messaged to say her dd tested positive this am. I was hoping we’d be in the clear. 😩

We’ve had it twice in a short period of time. We had it in December (just before Xmas hols) and now again.
Probably had delta then and now omricon. Both times from school where cases have exploded.

Number109 · 30/01/2022 12:05

Yep my 5 year old tested positive this morning having had it originally at the end of November.

Katya213 · 30/01/2022 12:08

Were you or your kids worse on the second infection? This is my first time and I feel really unwell, I'm scared of reinfection.

UpsilonPi · 30/01/2022 13:06

Yep, friend's son had it a month apart. Unvaccinated (due to age). Also thinking delta and omicron. Not too poorly either time though.

Januarypip · 30/01/2022 13:10

Do a lateral flow this won't show positive from her old infection

It's definitely easier this time. Another reason I think it's Omicron.

Plenty of kids having it in Dec then Jan at our school

MummyMe87 · 30/01/2022 15:01

It’s very common, and upset stomach and headache are the common symptoms in children.
You can PCR as the likelihood of still testing pos from early December is low. And it’s what you should do if you have onset of new symptoms
