My nose!!

HWBWithStripes · 26/01/2022 13:47

I'm on day 2, having had a high temperature on day 0 (the day I tested positive) and today. Apart from a cough and sore throat I can feel my nose on fire! Confused I can still smell strong smells like Vicks but am put off my food and can feel this burning tight sensation in my nose. Anyone else? I thought Omicron was mild. I had 2 vaccines and the booster. Is this Delta, possibly or is it impossible to say?

It's unlikely to be delta. Only 1% of cases were delta in the latest REACT study by Imperial, omicron has pretty much wiped out delta. I don't think people really understand what mild means when doctors describe an illness as mild. A temperature, sore throat, cough and burning nose is "mild".

I don't really have much to suggest that will help your nose, sorry. Do you mean sinus pain, it doesn't really sound like it? DS had really bad sinus pain with COVID (twice). He found the Sudafed nasal sprays really helped.

LetItGoToRuin · 26/01/2022 14:20

My nose burned too, like you describe. Not nice at all.

Mild pretty much means not in hospital.

Hope you feel better soon.

itsgettingweird · 26/01/2022 14:24

Just getting over it.

Felt like tonsillitis with a blow torch up my nose and swollen cheeks!

No temp, no cough and just a rancid smell up my nose rather than losing it!

Testing negative now (day 5). Still occasionally get the smell up my nose like someone died!

HWBWithStripes · 26/01/2022 14:25

Not Sinuses, no, a 'nose on fire' sensation, like sore throat but sore nose Grin. @chesirecat99 you are so right but for many Covid now has mild to no symptoms. I'm just grateful to be vaccinated.

Hi I had covid in dec 2020 and had the nose burning sensation. It also felt v dry. Unfortunately I lost my smell and taste and it's still not 100%. I had no symptoms other than this and maybe a v mild fever one evening.

Isolationstation68 · 26/01/2022 14:34

The sensation I've got up my nose feels like when you swimming and the water goes up the wrong way.

HWBWithStripes · 26/01/2022 14:38

Yes and yes!

That's awful @redferrari, I hope your sense of smell will recover.

I had covid recently and like isolation68 above it felt like I’d been swimming upside down and got chlorine in my nose! Plus I had what felt like I’d inhaled an acidy/vinegary smell whenever there was a strong scent near me.
Now I seem to have infected sinus now I’m negative 🙄

strawflower · 26/01/2022 14:44

Yes I had covid last week and it was awful - I'm also 7 months pregnant so I was and still am pretty exhausted! My nose pain was one of the most uncomfortable symptoms - just keeping on top of it with paracetamol was the only thing that helped! I briefly lost about 80% of my ability to smell but that's pretty much come back. Took me a good 7 days to feel sort of able to get up and about but it's day 8 and I'm still testing positive. Poor 7 year old son has been cooped up indoors since last saturday, so 11 days now. Getting a neighbour to take him to school tomorrow! Hope you feel better soon

chesirecat99 · 26/01/2022 14:46

@Isolationstation68

Isn't that just a form of sinus pain?

Try the Sudafed sprays, @HWBWithStripes but perhaps just apply a small amount to one nostril first in case it irritates the nose further? They do a blocked nose spray, as well as a sinus spray.

HWBWithStripes · 26/01/2022 14:49

I can't even begin to imagine having Covid while pregnant you deserve a medal @strawflower. Hopefully it has given you and your baby excellent immunity for a long time. Dh tends to get Sinusitis when he has a cold @babypeach I know how painful and uncomfortable that can be. Onwards and up, bring on spring and super immunity.

I had a burning nose with omicron. Then everything smelt like blood for a few days. Confused

Day four it was gone. Feel for you as it's not nice.

UnconditionalSurrender · 26/01/2022 15:00

I had this with covid March 2020. I didn't know at the time and tried a beconase spray and omg it was like I'd put acid up my nose. I used saline nasal sprays to try and stop it. Sort of helped. Not much though. Both times I had covid sinus pain was my biggest problem- never went into my chest.

Porcupineintherough · 26/01/2022 15:02

Bless you, that is mild. Mild when it comes to COVID includes sick as a dog.

I had the burning thing when I got COVID, constant for 4 months, periodic since then (18 months) but milder all the time. But it stops within a few weeks for most people.

As for omicron vs delta they said on the radio that something like 95% of cases are now omicron. So still a small chance it could be delta.

Where are you in the country. The SW still have lots of Delta cases,.Omricon just overtaking, well that's what my GP told me today.
strawflower · 26/01/2022 15:20

@HWBWithStripes thanks it hasn't been fun! Especially to see DH taking all manner of cough medicine etc to help when I was only allowed paracetamol! Just hope I feel more or less normal by next week latest!

Itsnotover · 26/01/2022 15:23

My friend had omicron recently and her tongue went bright yellow. Within days it was back to normal and she was testing negative again.

Username3092997 · 26/01/2022 15:23

I had extreme sinus/nose pain with covid last month. Warmth on the face helps - flannel, shower, head in bath, wheat bag, even a facial steamer (didn't do the steam myself apart from in shower). Regular painkillers which you are probably doing.

Warm or hot drinks rather than cold. I hate not drinks but cold drinks make sinus pain a lot worse!

Saline nasal spray too!

Hope you feel better soon!

Itsnotover · 26/01/2022 15:24

Yes mild doesn’t mean that you have no symptoms, it means that you can recover at home without needing hospital treatment.

redferrari · 26/01/2022 19:05

Thanks @HWBWithStripes I had it pre vaccine and everyone who had it more recently have recovered sooner. Hope you feel better soon.

WarriorN · 26/01/2022 19:12

Elsewhere anti histamines have been suggested, which a pharmacist friend said is good for colds generally

It's actually irritating my chest more; can feel my asthma attempting to kick off.

Flamingos · 26/01/2022 22:44

I had the same nose pain on day 4 and 5, burning feeling in my nose like when you are swimming and water goes up! When it stopped I realised my sense of smell was completely gone. I had it again for a few hours on day 12 and after that my sense of smell came back almost completely. It was really odd.

Policyschmolicy · 26/01/2022 22:46

I am also getting the acetic acid smell periodically. Not vinegar, but pure, lab grade acetic acid

GranolaHolmes · 26/01/2022 22:55

Yep back of the nose feels dry and hot/burnt a bit like after you throw up. Day 4 here.

Mossstitch · 26/01/2022 23:19

I thought it felt like when you add chilli powder to the pan and accidentally breathed it in. I had original though and it went through all mucus membranes, sinuses, throat and down to lungs.
