I'm going to be with +ve people today. We then plan to isolate together.
What should I do/get before exposure? I can get to a supermarket before I see them.
Paracetamol
Calpol
Fruit juice
Tins of soup

I have it too and it's worse than a cold for me.

loloballlolo · 26/01/2022 09:44

Vitamins D, C and ZINC (very important).

marqueses · 26/01/2022 09:44

If you can get to the supermarket why not buy what you would normally buy for however long you plan not to be able to shop for?

Is there a reason you need to get special shopping?

Abraxan · 26/01/2022 09:45

I'm assuming you're doing it out of necessity rather than planning a 'covid catching party.'

You may not catch it. Dh and Dd haven't despite me having it twice, plus had lots of other exposure.

But for anyone positive it's worth having in:

  • paper masks (so can answer door for deliveries etc)
  • oximeter and thermometer (cheap from Amazon)
  • lots of LFTs (if negative to test daily so can still leave house more safely, if positive to test from day 5
  • if anyone is clinically vulnerable, access to a PCR kit and number of GP/consultants. Makes getting antiviral treatment easier and quicker
  • plenty of headache and/or cold and flu type meds (headache seems to be first big symptom at moment)
  • tissues (lots getting blocked and/or runny nose at moment)
  • quick to prep food, eso if having little to no energy
  • plenty of drinks such as fruit juice for quick vitamin C etc
  • plenty of toilet roll etc - a number of people seen to be getting gastro
  • cleaning materials

And plenty of box sets/access to films and tv etc.
I'm home alone with covid each day and have no energy. I'm sleeping and watching rubbish on tv much of the time as have now energy to do anything more.

marqueses · 26/01/2022 09:46

covid exposure parties are quite a big thing even though they are illegal

Are you in England? When did it become illegal to meet up with people who have covid?

SleepingStandingUp · 26/01/2022 09:46

I assume re being ill and isolating not what food will last a week
Abraxan · 26/01/2022 09:48

Just seen Calpol

I'm assuming children involved

At school we have many little ones testing positive. Most have headaches and cold like symptoms, and feel lethargic. But are bouncing back fairly quickly and most seem to be testing negative again quickly and back at school by day 6.

So entertainment for when they feel better but are still isolating - especially if the adults are feeling worse for longer
And lots of snacks they can get easily

And if school age - how to access their home learning. It may be one way to stop them being bored!

zafferana · 26/01/2022 09:51

I tested positive yesterday, after catching it from my 10-year-old DC. I'm vaccinated and boosted and so far all I've needed is a few tissues. Sore throat has been very mild, a bit of congestion, a slight headache, metallic taste in my mouth. I'm fit and in my late 40s. The cold I had in early Dec was WAY worse than this.

zafferana · 26/01/2022 09:51

10-year-old is asymptomatic!

AnEpisodeOfEastenders · 26/01/2022 09:55

Is this going to be the new chicken pox party where you deliberately get infected at a convenient time rather than risk getting infected when it may be more disruptive to things you have planned?

I wish we had done that early December last year so Xmas plans didn't get screwed up!

simonisnotme · 26/01/2022 09:57

Im on day8 has just been like a cold all the way with 3 jabs
living with DH not really isolated (separate beds) and he is still negative
there is a chance you may not get it

worriedatthemoment · 26/01/2022 10:11

Myself and ds have it but dh and other ds still negative , my ds who has covid had a week now , I got it 5 days after
So far we have been lucky and not needed paracetamol but have got some in
Its the boredom thats getting me being isolated of dh could get it like we have then I would rather he got it with us then we can all use the whole house
But dvds , netflix account , plenty drinks etc all stuff i would recommend

worriedatthemoment · 26/01/2022 10:13

@marqueses well its illegal for the person who has c

worriedatthemoment · 26/01/2022 10:13

@marqueses sorry pressed too soon its a legal requirement for the person who has covid to isolate etc so maybe it would come under that

LethargeMarg · 26/01/2022 10:13

@marqueses

covid exposure parties are quite a big thing even though they are illegal

Are you in England? When did it become illegal to meet up with people who have covid?

It's against the law to deliberately infect someone in the way a covid party would- that's what Jeremy vine said anyway !
LethargeMarg · 26/01/2022 10:15

Practically speaking get bongela I had terrible mouth ulcers and 'covid tongue' couldn't speak properly for three days (this was omicron recently)

FredBair · 26/01/2022 10:16

I'm guessing you are going to look after a sick / elderly relative with covid?
Take plenty of LFTs and assuming you are vaccinated you don't need to isolate. If you aren't vaccinated don't do it.
Take your netflix login and plenty to read.
Organise a supermarket delivery to their address.

doublemonkey · 26/01/2022 10:25

High strenght Vit D3, zinc and Vit C.

Topbird29 · 26/01/2022 10:41

Am guessing you need to help, so willing to put yourself in that position. Hope no one gets too ill. If getting calpol then a bottle counts as 1 or the 2 paracetemol allowed to be bought at once. So might need to do a couple of shops. We had covid in Nov, and luckily had it mildly. I found the night and day cold capsules good (supermarket own brand). And hot squash and lockets. We mostly had sore throats, and slight cold symptoms. So cough syrup for grown ups and children may be useful. One child was extra tired for a day. Food wise- longlife stuff, and easy prep food. Think cravendale milk lasts longer in fridge. Wraps have a good shelf life, so are good if run out of bread. Or get yeast and flour and make own bread. Also - the part baked bread /rolls keep for a few weeks.Tinned soups (fresh can also have a good shelf life), Beans, spaghetti hoops eggs, pasta sauce, pasta, tuna, frozen veg (corn on the cob is good), meat to freeze to use later on. Fruit - apples and satsumas last a while. Raisins and dates. Dried mango or apples slices. And ours would still have Ella's kitchen fruit pouches at a shove. With kids, Innocent smoothies and yoyos might be good for getting "fruit" in if not fresh fruit (but may have more sugar). Not a long term solution, but good in emergency. Juice boxes. Jacket potatoes. Little gem lettuces instead of salad bags. Flavoured cous cous packets

St0rmTr00per · 26/01/2022 10:47

All 3 of my DC and DH have had covid while all living under one roof. All at different times. None of the rest of us have caught it each time and I am yet to have it. GOOD LUCK!!

gunnersgold · 26/01/2022 10:50

Wtf , is it like chicken pox parties now🤷‍♀️

MarianneFaithful · 26/01/2022 10:58

Sorry, didn't mean to start a bunfight! Its not a covid party. I'll be looking after +ve children, so I will effectively be isolating with them as they are too small to be left alone. I'm not going to try to catch it, but won't be keeping away from them either.
I'll pick up throat spray and an oximeter. I think we're okay for entertainment & food thanks.

@gunnersgold

Wtf , is it like chicken pox parties now🤷‍♀️
Or much more likely the OP is going to be caring for children/parents/others that need help.

Why assume the worst of people??

@MarianneFaithful

These have already been mentioned, but this would be my list.

Phone charger!!
LFT tests
Lozengers
Tissues
Panadol
Nurofen
Thermometer
Oximeter
Vitamins
Drinks
Easy food

Plus the obvious... any regular medicine & clean pants 🤣🤣

Take care

My 5 year old with SEN Tested positive last Monday - two days after we were told he was a close contact and we have all been restricting movements since. All four of us tested positive over four days last week. I completely expected none or minimal symptoms however I’m still quite fatigued and weary and so is husband. The children had a bad 24 hours and fine after but one developed a chesty cough.

Ive been eating sweets for energy. Prob not the best idea.
