Unvaccinated friend is not self isolating, is a primary school teacher!

My close friend is a nursery/ reception teacher so she is a close contact of various children off school with covid at the moment. She has not had any covid vaccines and is not self isolating! She has obviously not been contacted by test and trace and her school must not realise she is unvaccinated. Should I tell them? Should I tell Test and Trace?

None of your business. You don’t sound like a great friend.

ANameChangeAgain · 26/01/2022 08:41

I didn't think you had to self isolate if you were unvaccinated? No, you don't need to tell anyone, there is nothing to tell.

grey12 · 26/01/2022 08:41

Do you know whether she is testing for covid?

Maybe she has a reason for not vaccinating, but I do agree that people doing jobs like hers should be doing regular testing

trevthecat · 26/01/2022 08:44

So she has been in contact but not been contact with track and trace? Why should she be isolating?

Snowiscold · 26/01/2022 08:46

She doesn’t have to self-isolate, though. Why do you think she should? Is she doing regular tests?

blondieee · 26/01/2022 08:47

Wouldn't call yourself her friend tbh. You don't sound like a friend at all. A nosey busy body more like it. Can't even imagine wanting to snitch on my friend 😷 for not doing anything wrong either? Very strange. You are very discriminatory towards those that haven't had the vaccine. It's a choice remember. None of your business whatsoever

Snowiscold · 26/01/2022 08:48

I mean, she would only have to isolate if contacted by Test and Trace, and they haven’t contacted her. So she doesn’t have to.

ItsSnowJokes · 26/01/2022 08:49

Unvaccinated people who are a close contact should self isolate as shown in the covid rules.

I wouldn't be snitching on her to her employer though, although I would think a lot less of her as a friend for having such low morals.

Another one of these threads! Just MYOB and get on with your own life!

thelittlestrhino · 26/01/2022 08:58

Teachers aren't generally classed as close contacts, when it comes to children they teach. The only time I've been 'Track and traced' is when I gave emergency first aid to a member of the public while I waited for an ambulance. Outdoors. Yet over 20 of my class have now had covid and obviously I spend all day with them, in a cramped poorly ventilated room and no social distancing.

Narutocrazyfox · 26/01/2022 09:00

Mind your own business.

saraclara · 26/01/2022 09:02

Who's decided she's a close contact of those children?

There are doctors and nurses in hospitals who haven't been vaccinated. Including those working in wards where there are/have been covid cases. They are still at work.

At this point vaccinated and boostered people are catching it at such a rate, that I suspect there's not that much difference in risk to others any more. My fully vaccinated nurse and teacher daughters have both had it (so presumably could have passed it to others in the early stage) in the past few weeks. I'm no longer convinced that unvaccinated people are much more of a risk to anyone other than themselves. I'm fully vaccinated by the way.

saraclara · 26/01/2022 09:04

Teachers aren't generally classed as close contacts, when it comes to children they teach.

Exactly. Nor are medical staff, or covid wards would have had no staff at all until testing in place of isolation came in

MegaClutterSlut · 26/01/2022 09:06

As long as she's testing regularly, why the hell would you care? You're not much of a friend imo

StrongSunglasses · 26/01/2022 09:08

Yabvu.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 26/01/2022 09:13

She doesn’t have to get vaccinated so mind your business

Simonjt · 26/01/2022 09:15

Teachers have never been classed as close contacts when a student tests positive.

BooksAndHooks · 26/01/2022 09:15

Teachers are not counted as close contacts. In fact unless you’ve had close contact outside of school test and trace don’t count classmates as contacts for children either.

Toottooot · 26/01/2022 09:17

999 NOW! REPORT REPORT REPORT 🙄🙄🙄🙄

MrsMariaReynolds · 26/01/2022 09:18

You do realize just how many "close contacts" those of us who work in schools are experiencing now on a daily basis?? We'd never go back to work if we had to isolate everytime a pupil develops Covid. The burden is completely on her if she doesn't get herself vaccinated.

Thievesoil · 26/01/2022 09:20

I mean - genuinely - what difference does it make if she is vacced or not? It’s the testing that is key.

We need to have a sensible discussion about risk.

I’m unvacced and think I had covid 2 years ago. I test before I see vulnerable people or attend big events. I think in my dirty unvacced status, taking great care, I present far less risk than vaccinated people who are unrestricted

saraclara · 26/01/2022 09:24

Testing instead of isolating only came in about a month ago. Prior to that all contacts, vaccinated or not, had to isolate.

If teachers were considered close contacts of each child in their class who has covid, schools would have been completely closed for months. Not a single teacher would have been in school. They'd all have been isolating.

Likewise no patient with covid could be treated, as the moment that a doctor or nurse came into contact with them, they'd have to go home to isolate.

The govt and the country need hospitals and schools open. That's why the contact rules were tweaked for those who work in them.

LuckyMeISeeGhosts · 26/01/2022 09:26

She has obviously not been contacted by test and trace

Well, she's not legally required to then.

Sally872 · 26/01/2022 09:28

I think unvaccinated household contacts have to isolate, other contacts dont always (if ever) have to isolate. I would assume she has been honest with track and trace (if they asked and presumably they would ask if it mattered).

Waxonwaxoff0 · 26/01/2022 09:29

Mind your business. I have a DS in primary and this would not bother me at all.

Primary school kids aren't vaccinated and are not required to isolate as close contacts so what difference does it make if the teacher doesn't either?
